Which VGA should a person buy for a K6400 and a Celeron 400 machine under 165.00, both machines will be used for 3d gaming.. One of my clients from years back just called and wants some ideas, he probably will go with spending about a 100.00 a piece for cards, but I would like some ideas because I know you guys are the Gurus of the Gaming and Video age.. We will save upgrading the cpu's for after christmas...

Thanks

Let me add the celeron now has a Matrox Mystique, and the K63d 400 has a riva 128 card.. The Celeron is a business machine (Dads), but his son likes to play games on it and have a friend on the k6 playing over there in home network. The K6 is the sons machine.. 12 years old..

thanks

I recommend an ATI Radeon 32meg DDR. Terrific gaming card. Excellent 2D quality(second only to the reputed best, Matrox G400) as well as great 3D performance. New software drivers will come out soon and the card already outperforms most, if not all the cards in that price range. Some of the few cool things about it is its inclusion of DirectX 8's (almost out) new features and focus on 32bit 3D gaming quality. It's one of the best card on the market, let alone most bang for the buck.

This card just came out, and the price is around $150. You can get one at that price at the reputable www.buy.com with the 30 dollar off 150 instant coupon. It's how I got mine, and I'm very happy with it. Heard you can get one for $110 at BestBuy. Post or look around the hotdeals forum if you like to know more.

Thanks Yata,

I will go check out Buy.com and the card.. do you think the Velocity 1000 is just not powerful enough in todays market for a cheap card.. Im running it on my machine and have the 2nd Tmu turned on and I and my daughter play Tribes and Unreal tournament and and it works great.. We both have Celeron 400's with the cheap Velocity card... Im thinking of seeing if he wants to buy my old cards and I will buy these Radeon's for myself.. of cource he only paying about 20.00
per card..

Hey, Velocity 100, can this day get any greater?
Anyway that's what I got ;-?
It gives me 40fps on 800x600 Half Life (Not demos, I use show_fps 1 as I can't work demos) and 20 on MDK (dang tnl) with K2+550. As I've been itchin' to get up to 1024x768 (meaning BOTH monitor and vc upgrade... but it's about time this late-80s monster retired, my monitor) and the V100's only got 8mb (I had the 2nd TMU enabled like Anand says, but it didn't seem to do anything so when I u/ged to real V3 drivers I didn't bother to turn it back on... but isn't it automatic with V3 drivers? and how far does yours O/C? mines goes to 160) it's about time to u/g. I want a $50 Viper II or $100 MX... keeping an eye on the Radeon, but I'm not that flexible. The V100 is a prety decent card (especially for UT, and on the K6 just check out the k62/3 upgrade guide), as long as you use 800x600 or less.
I would suggest a Radeon or even GTS for your Celery, then get the other later.

Was that $160 total for 2 vidcards? If so, just get a couple Voodoo3s. That'll give you good gaming performance(probably best you can hope for with the k6-2), good 2d quality, and you may have money leftover.

True.

I have a K6-500 now. I recently was a friend's house playing Tribes with his 500 PIII. It was great. A lot better than mine, even though I have the same memory and a better video card. Intel's FPU -- dag nabbit.

If you could save some more money, get rid of the K6-2 400 for a celery.
