Which version should I upgrade to, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 on my new laptop?

Hi, I recently bought a Dell Latitude Laptop with Windows 7 Pro (32-bit) preinstalled. But, I want to upgrade it to a more recent version of Windows. I have been suggested two options: One option is to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and the other option is to upgrade to the latest release of Windows 10.
I heard from reliable sources that, Windows 10 has many glitches and bugs in it, so it's better off to stick with older versions of the OS. So, I want to know that should I upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, which would be better for my new system?

What model Dell? How much Ram? This dictates whether you should use 32 or 64 bit Windows.

It's best that you make your own decision. Others' recommendations are most often subjective. What works for them does not necessarily work for you.
Here are a few points you might want to ponder:
1. Change for the sake of changing is not always a good idea.
2. Are you familiar with Windows 7? If you are, are you happy with it? If you are happy with it, why change something that works?
3. Microsoft will continue to support Win 7 up to January 2020. You are not like getting an obsolete OS.
4. You will be hard pressed to round up some Win 8/8.1 fans.
5. Win 10 is new. Too new. Bugs and glitches still prevalent. If you visit a few Windows 10 forums, you will see what I mean.

That said, I have a laptop running Windows 10 Home, and another one running Windows 10 Pro.
I changed for the sake of changing, I admit. I have been lucky, they run very well, and problems I had were minor and simple to fix.

I would stay windows 7 actually. I have an inspirion e1505 and explored the idea of loading windows 10 on it but found some of its hardware, namely the ati video adapter, had no windows 10 drivers. And that getting the older legacy drivers to work on it would have been a pain, and prolly nullified any performance gains i MIGHT have seen in windows 10. So I kept it at 7. (also the above issue prevented me from using the free auto upgrade program).

Dell says the same thing about my alienware laptop and it works just fine on 10. Even the alienware control center which controls kb lighting works fine.

I wouldn't waste money on a new OS for a laptop of that age. If you want to do the free upgrade to 10 (or even if you don't) add 2 GB of RAM. It will make a niticeable difference.
