So thought it would be fun to ask people what version of Windows Vista you all are looking forward to if any version.. maybe your going to stick with Windows XP? who knows...

Myself... im getting Windows Vista: Home Premium...
not sure if i'll get OEM or retail Upgrade.... i'd get retail upgrade (i save 60 bucks on staff discount so it'll be the same as oem here in Canada will be)
i just wanna confirm it'll be the way XP upgrade worked with fresh reformats... the whole asking for an older windows cd... ?

anyways thats what i'll be getting :)

how about you?

Probably Home Premium for my HTPC... i need the Windows Media Center to integrate with my 360. I just wished it allowed remote desktop (not just client). Seems a little absurd to pay almost $200 more for simply that function (that's the only thing that really interests me in the Business.. shadow copying is nice though).

I have Vista Enterprise edition free from school.

Has everything I want except for Media Center. Unfortunately the only version that has both remote desktop and Media Center is Ultimate. But since it is free, I can't complain.

I'll go the retail upgrade route, waffling between HomePrem and Ultimate.. See how it shakes out at Sam's Club or someplace online, who knows. the Kid in me wants Ultimate cuz 'its cool and stuff', but the adult says.. 'that's a lot more for a name and a couple of features you might or might not use'..

We'll see.. If I had decided to go Ultimate now, I'd probably do the digitally signed numbered Ultimate upgrade on amazon.com :D

Since there is no Good Vista around I will continue to use my Linux. Linux is fifteen years ahead.

I'll receive Vista Business in my Action Pack subscription, but I don't plan on installing it anytime soon since XP and my 3rd party apps/games suit me just fine.

It's 15 years behind when installing programs most of the time though :p

Home premium (through upgrade - I just bought xp mce 2005) I might not install it right away though. I haven't really been following it, but I expect creative labs to suck in the drivers department for awhile in vista. I will probably see how it is going for others with x-fi cards and then go from there. that is the main reason I didn't do much RC testing was because I had no sound...

Nope, Linux changed a Lot, and generally to install a program you only need 2 clicks, your password, the name of the program, 2 clicks. And everything has been done...

Yup, i have to agree, or even bettter, one command and voila, everything installed!
Linux has been emerging fast under the the other OS user's nose, so they didn't see it coming up. But it's the truth, many people are switching over to Linux, and even some companies, small scaled, and some large scaled have started porting for linux. I have played games like UT2004, Quake 4 and Doom 3 on Linux and it runs better than on my Windows PC.

Home Basic, because it's free with purchase of XP now.

Thought I would upgrade to Home Premium using Anytime, but since it's going to cost double what I expected to do that, $80, I'll pass.

Only reason I want it is for DX10 and because eventually Microsoft will stop supporting XP.

I'd buy a Mac before I'd spend hundreds of dollars on a MS operating system.

IIRC, Microsoft is going to support XP Professional through at least 2010. If you are using Home support will end in about a year.

Supposedly Microsoft "clarified" this, XP Home should get "mainstream" support for 2 years after Vista's official release, same as XP Professional. XP Pro gets "extended" support for longer.

Of course, Microsoft itself doesn't seem to know what that means, and exactly how long the "extended" XP Pro support lasts is stated in at least 2 ways, either 5 years from the end of "mainstream" support, or 10 years from when XP Pro was released.

My bet would be there's no way they will stop issuing security updates for all versions of XP any sooner than 5 years from now.

As an aside, as a consumer XP Home user, I guess the message Microsoft wants to send me is, they don't think I'm as valuable a customer as a business using XP Pro, which is a pretty stupid message to send.

Home premium upgrade retail edition or home premium dsp. Still deciding on if the retail edition is worth the extra R500.
