i want to use ACDsee to do really basic photo editing (I can't name all the functions I want)
I found version 2.41 inadequate, but fear v6.0 would be too bloated with crap that i will never use...

I know it would be difficult for you guys to recommend one since you don't know how much function I need... and neither do I know myself. anyway, nothing too fancy, just functional.

I really like version 4.0. I tried version 6 but it was too bloated, and I'm not a person that usually complains about bloat (I run iTunes, Microsoft Office 2003, and I'm always downloading the latest upgrades.)

I try all the latest and greatest.. but found that I still keep version 3.1 around and still use it on my primary machine. Version 4+ was too bloated for me.

As for "basic" editing, you can do cropping, hue/contrast mods, etc. Anything more advanced I stick with Photoshop.

I've only used ACDsee since v5, but I prefer v5 to the latest (v6). We've recently upgraded to ACDsee 6.0 here at work, and it just feels bloated.

6.0 is pretty bloated, version 5 was probably the most balanced for speed and features. Sometimes they just can't leave an app alone when they reach the pinnacle for what the app should do.

yeah, I agree with you.... 5.x is the most balanced. 6.x is too slow, 4.x was buggy and 3.1 was the classic one :)

Hi,
I found that 3.1 is much faster than 6.0

if i have a faster machine i want to try 6.0, cuz i like its platform. I does look better...

now i have a question for 3.1 user...
How can i make the thumbnail qualiity better?
I have set the thumbnail size at 132x113pixels (0border), if i don't check the "stretch small thumbnails", it will be very small, but when i've check it, it seems so "blocky", how can i make it look better like version 6.0?

thanks

I think there's an option about "Thumbnail compression quality" somwhere in the Preferences...

Go download irfanview from irfanview.com. It's free, fast, full-featured and has free plug ins, like special effect filters.

i somehow fool around with the "optimization", and now i get a better quality.
