The Hemi hasn't even been implemented in a performance application, IMO there's really no connection between the motor other than one powered the F Bodies, and the other is powering Dodge Rams

The LS1 is the base motor for the 'Vette, too.

Isn't it the LS6 now, or is that just for the Z06?

I think the LS6 is the upgraded motor in the Z06, and not at this time the base engine. I'll double check.

EDIT: Key standard features include: 350-hp, 5.7 Liter LS1 V8 engine

The Hemi is supposed to power the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 and the Chrysler 300C. The Magnum was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 300C at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The only thing I don't like about it is the auto tranny, but at least it's a 5-speed. I like the look and the wagon/hatchback would be very useful in the future as well.

Oh, I forgot, we were looking for 5.7+ liter, V8, 300+ hp economy car motors.
GM's 6.5L is very fuel effiecient, especially for hp and torque produced. But then again, that's a diesel.

No smaller motors get the mention? I nominate my Chrysler 2.2 Turbo damnit! :p BTW: The original 426 Hemi and 440 Six pack deserve mentioning.

The 426 hemi is #2. It got mentioned. :)

The 440 Six pack was right on the edge of the list. As was the 327 Chevy, Ford 5.0, and the 5.4L that's in the Lightning. Although the smaller engines are quite good, you know the SRT-4 is a winner, they haven't made as large of an impact.

Edit: and I have to give a shout out to the Deusenberg straight 8. Any engine that could push a yacht to 150MPH in 1929 w/ a 3 speed planetary is something special.

How can people rate the HEMI yet? Have you people looked at that electrical nightmare in PERSON? or do you just look at power numbers?

HEMI is just a name people.. the 5.7 is NOTHING in comparison to the 426

What's a hemi? A stupid engine with hemispherical combustion chambers.

That's a great list, but I'll take my 455 Stage 1 Buick motor over a lot of those, but that's just me.

lots of engines now-a-days have hemispherical combustion chambers.

Actually I'd rate the Duesy Straight-8 up there as one of the best. Any Straight-8 DOHC Supercharged engine that made 300hp in the 1930s requires to be on the top 10 list.
