Which USB Jumpdrive/Cruzer, etc. is best?

I'm looking for a 512 MB USB flash memory drive like a Sandisk Cruzer, Lexar Jumpdrive, etc. Which brand and version is supposedly best? Does it really matter and just go with price? I see one Lexar model has security software which seems like a good idea, but is it a hassle?

Any good advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

stuman74, FWIW I have three Lexar Jumpdrives, one being a Pro (USB 2.0). All have performed w/o incident. I can tell you that the Pro version on a USB 2.0 port is noticeably faster than the 1.1 variants.

I have been very happy with my 1GB PQI stick....

that being said, i really haven't heard too many horror stories...just make sure you get one that's USB 2.0, as said above it is noticeably faster, and worth the very small premium

Thanks guys. Do you feel that any of the encryption/security software is important? Though a remote circumstance, what if I lost this thing at a public place or something?

I have both a lexar media jumpdrive and a micro cruzer and honestly I like the jumpdrive better. The cruzer is considerably smaller and looks much more refined however it acts really strange. For example, I can't plug it into my front usb ports for some reason and sometimes it causes problems when I leave it in when I boot my comp. I've never had any of these problems with my lexar.

Of the Lexar models, there seems to be a half-dozen types or so. Aside from the one with security, is it just style that differentiates the others? Are they all functionally the same?

For my PDA and digital camera, I've had better success with Lexar SD cards than Sandisk SD cards. I guess I'd lean more Lexar for a USB drive too.

I have used the SanDisk and Lexar drives from 128 up to the new 2gb flash drive.

Both brands worked well for me.

Well, I ordered a 512 MB PQI USB drive from Newegg.com. So tiny it fits in a wallet! Can't wait to get it next week!

i was just getting ready to send you a link over there...that's where i got my 1gb PQI stick...it also came with the credit card sized carrying case and the USB "cover" that makes it closer to a normal sized one

Mine arrived on Tuesday (Newegg always ships fast!). I love it! It's in my wallet and connected to 4-5 computers easily. Definitely the one to get!
