im pretty sure my ms natural elite is a mechanical since there are little springs in there and its noisy. I used to use a compaq membrane one on my first computer for a long time, and well that wasnt all that bad either. and i'm used to the really shallow ones on laptops. i guess its a tradeoff between quiet and responsiveness.

You have a link to the two differences? for my curiosity. First time I've heard those words applied to keyboards or anything else.

Happy with my Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro because I like the feel to the keys and I'm probably one of the few that actually use all the short cut buttons and the 2 port USB hub.

The best I ever used was a Northgate Omnikey 102. A few are areound - and they are being rebadged and sold as "Avant." They run about $189 a pop. Available here:

Hmmmm.... I don't really know how to describe this, but I like keyboards that drop resistance once you've pushed the key down far enough to register it. It gives me a tactile confirmation I like. The best keyboard I've stumbled across is one that came from an original DEC ALPHA PC. It's many years old now and I'll miss it when it finally dies.
