Price for me is not an issue because I can get both sets at about the same cost.... so in terms of pure sound quality in games, music and DVD movies which is better?

when price is not an issue, do you mean you will spend anything, or the range of 80-100 or so (give or take?)

personally, i was going to go with the 5300's about a month ago, but decided against it.

i have heard that the altec lansing 251's were a bit better than the z-640's, but can't remember where anymore. i'm sure it's just off of one of many review sites i visit....but i don't know the features of either, and maybe that's a big selling point to you.

actually, when i get a new computer (soon, i hope), i plan on buying a receiver and speakers to go with it instead of computer speakers. you can hook the computer to the receiver no problem if your sound card supports it, and a receiver can handle a DVD player, VCR, cable, CD player, you name it.

of course, it'll cost a bit more, but the functionality beats any computer speakers I've seen hands down.

my choices are strictly between the 5300 and the Z-640... among the two which would be better?

I think you should go for the 5300, even the cheapest Creative model sounds okay especially compared to the price, while Logitech always have had some problems with their cheaper models (actually the only exceptions is the 560 and 680 as most people know). I just ordered the 680 myself, and normally I favour logitech products, but creatives "small" soundsystems feels and looks more solid and exclusive ..and sounds fine.

speaking of using a receiver i am currently using my stereo as my PC speakers... would i get better sound from them as compared to the 5300's or Z-640's? take note the stereo only has two speakers and no sub... so no surround sound... but it's speakers are your typical stereo speakers... you know a box sort of thing with several drivers in them... i'm guessing they would probably sound better with music and all other 2-channel stuff... but i'm not really sure... so what do you think???

My bro has the 5300 and I have the Z640. I like mine because it sounds like mine has higher bass than his. I'm not a true audiophile so I can't really say which one is better based on the sounds that I hear, but I like my Z640s. I've never blasted mine to the max so I can't say how it sounds at high volumes. Hope this helps.

I wasnt being funny, but if theres a problem that doesnt have a specific catagory, then put it in general hardware.
