Which to choose

The choices:

7800GTX (Have now)

BFG 7900 GT OC (115 shipped)

EVGA 8600GTS 256mb with Zalman 700 cooler and led fan

Which one would be best for gaming?

Yeah the 7800gtx is still fine, the cards you are looking at are only minor upgrades if that. A 512 7800gtx is actually closer to a 7900gtx than a 7900gt oc. If yours is of the 256 variety, I would trade for the 8600gts, it overclocks well, takes less power, and will probably run cooler.

Have been offered a trade for the 8600GTS

You did the right thing by coming here to ask the questions. It wouldn't be worth it to replace the 7800 GTX with the 7900 GT OC since the performance would be about the same. (Normally, upgrading a top-of-the-line video card from a previous generation with a new video card is only worthwhile if the new one is two generations ahead and is one of the top cards in that generation.

A guy wants to trade you a 8600 GTS for a 7800 GTX?

Yeah, I bet he does! He's hoping you'll make that trade! The 8600 GTS was intended to be a watered down economy card and as is normally the case, the top-of-the-line card from the previous generation will totally smoke the economy card of the next generation.

I dont think trading a 7800GTX for a 8600GTS is a smart move. At least not for you. For the other person, yeah.
