Which tires to get

I am going to need to get new tires for my car (BMW M roadster). Currently I have 245/40/ZR17's in th rear and 225/45/ZR17's up front (all Dunlop SP Sport 8080). So give me some input. My service guy said I should go somewhere else to get the tires - they only offer Michilen's and they were overpriced.

Give me some ideas!!!

I bought a set of bridgestone s-03 pole positions (great tire) for $133 each a while back and had them installed locally.
I just bought 2 Yokohama AVS ES100 from there ($77) to see how they handle/compare to the s-03's

amcdonald, how do you like ur es100's...? i don't really like mine... but then again, i'm comparing them to falken azenis sports...

bridgestone s03's or toyo t1's (great for dry if you don't need all weather performance, also lighter than the s03s). michelin pilots are good but way too expensive. kumho's are cheap and pretty decent too. i would go to the forums at www.roadfly.org and www.bimmerforums.com to ask. they have plenty of enthusiasts to help you if you don't find the tires you're looking for. roadfly also has a tirerack forum.

I haven't gotten them yet, I'm expecting them monday via ups. I don't expect they'll be as good as the s-03's from reading tire reviews. but they are half the price so I think I'll get over it

I agree with the above. I have had the Yokohamas and was very satisfied. Bridgestones fine also.

My Dunlops were OK but Michelins gave me much problems.

Okay, I narrowed it down to two...Bridgestone S-03 or the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. The all-season of the Pirellis make them really attractive not to mention the difference in price. The Pirellis would work out to be about $250 less than the S-03's.

My vote for the Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP or the S-03 Pole Position. Both are incredible tires. I currently have the Firehawk's and their wet traction is much better then the dry traction I had with my Goodyear Eagle F1's. Defiintely a good buy. Oh, also, (relatively) long treadlife, with a grippier compound as the tires are more worn. I'd try to get a local firestone dealer to pricematch tirerack's online price. Wait until tirerack has a sale if possible (usually monthly on any given tire).
