which tablet should i buy with a $400 budget?

i have around $400-$450 that i want to spend on getting a tablet or ipad.
not sure if i should get an android tablet over the ipad. i know the ipad exceeds my budget but if it's that much better, i guess i don't mind spending a little extra for it.

the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer seems to be popular, but i hear a new model is coming out soon, and the samsung galaxy seems to be way too expensive.

what would you guys do?
i just want to browse the web, watch youtube videos, chat with ppl, and try cool apps like the guitar app they have on the ipad/iphones. from what i know, the guitar apps where you use the touch function to play the guitar doesn't exist on android, so that might be a reason for me to consider the ipad. but the ipad doesn't have flash support, so i don't know if i will like watching youtube without flash, using their own proprietary method. as for gaming, which platform is better?

Wait for Transformer 2 like me.

Yes you can wait, and when the Transformer 2 comes out there will be rumors of the TF3 or a new Acer tablet and you can just wait on it.

If you want a tablet buy one now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the current Transformer or Acer Iconia tablets. either of them would serve you well.

so what's the ETA on the transformer 2's?
i don't HAVE to have the tablet right now, if it's few months then i'd rather wait.

the only thing that worries me is that i might spend this cash on something else while waiting...lol

I picked up a Transformer a few months ago when Office Depot was having that crazy $100 off tablets sale. Still love it.

If you can hold out for a T2, great. If not, the original Transformer is still a great tablet. I had originally wanted a Galaxy tab until I saw the proprietary port for HDMI, etc. And no micro SD slot. Definitely glad I picked up the Transformer instead.

+2

The quadcore should make it better for productivity multitasking, and the improved GPU should iron out the original Tegra2 video limitations (unlike Exynos, no 720p high-profile or 1080p or really demanding flash).

Umm...Asus CEO promised Transformer 2 this year. You wait a few months, and you get a tablet with MORE THAN double the power. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

The "there is always something better so buy now" is fine for normal folks, but for us who have the benefit of knowledge there are certain times when waiting a little will greatly increase your bang-for-buck.

Ok made my decision.
wait for transformer 2.
probably will be out sometime this year.

Don't rule out that the W8 beta being out not to much after the TF2. If that is case might wanna look into a W7 tablet and put W8 beta on it. That is my plan full fledged OS + browsing FTW. Right now both the Ipad and Android tablets are just way to limited thanks to phone like OS.

I don't honestly think Mobile OS tablets and x86 Windows Tablets are even competitors with each other. Completely different advantages and disadvantages of each with just a similar form-factor.

Since Kal-El looks to be one of the W8 reference platforms, there should be nothing stopping us from flashing or dual-booting W8 on the T2.

I think the second you are talking about ARM Windows 8 that is a different animal, that IS comparable to mobile OS tablets. Oh course, then goes away a lot of the advantages of Windows 8- when most people say "full fledged OS" what they are really saying is "will run the Windows apps I am used to." It is not like the browser on the ARM Windows is THAT MUCH better than say Opera Mobile on Android....

If budget is a consideration, hit the FS/FT forums here, you could more than likely get an excellent deal of a gently used tablet.

You can get a refurbished Ipad 2 from the Apple store for 450.00. We bought a Ipad 1, after the Ipad2 came out for 350. So watch for deals like that, when the next version of Ipad comes out, for people looking to save some cash.
Apple refurbished Ipads use all new shells, glass. You can't tell it's refurbished.

ok so my friend tells me to get the upcoming kindle fire...
and i can't tell from the product page on amazon... is it a full android tablet or is it customized for amazon? can i buy and use android apps as if it's a normal android tablet?

btw, transformer 2 ETA is early next month
