With Google officially saying that Android isn't suitable for tablets,
Thought Google said Froyo wasn't suited for tablets, not Android as a whole? Gingerbread in October is supposed to address the shortcomings.
i dont think android tablets will be that successful. all the ones ive seen planned so far have mediocre specs (1024x600 and lower quality screens) and high prices ($600-1000) or are only sold with a contract (why would someone with a smart phone pay an additional $60 a month for a android tablet???). apple can get away with high prices because they have cultivated a market of elitism combined with uninformed with consumers and pc makers cant, their stuff just doesnt warrant it. a fair price for an android table would be $200-250 and $15 month but no one seems to be willing to sell them at anywhere near that price
the concept of a win7 tablet is even more ridiculous. they will have horrible performance and are going to cost $1200. that will never catch on
a year from now the only decent tablet option will still be ipad2
If tablets become more widespread, I'm gonna go with Windows 7. The main complaint when the iPad came out was that it was "just a bigger iPhone".
People want the full desktop OS experience on a tablet IMO.
Fixed it for you. Apple rakes in huge profit margins by selling people people X-USD worth of hardware for X^2-USD.
And Samsungs Android tablet will cost more, Moto's will have a Verizon contract tied to it. So it looks like for the time being outside of a cheap Chinese POS the iPad is going to be the best deal. I dunno about you, but I don't want a monthly bill tied to a device I'm still going to end up paying a few hundred bucks for. Of course you could always go for a Windows 7 Tablet, Samsung has one coming out that's only about $1,000.

youre forgetting that apples growth with come from ipad 2, which will be out before any decent android tabletsTechnically, since Apple already has a huge market share in the tablet arena (they don't have any serious competition), there isn't much room for them to grow. So to answer the thread's question literally, I don't think iOS will experience the greatest marketshare growth.
That said, it will undoubtedly be the most successful tablet OS for at least the next 12 months, probably the next 24. I'm not an Apple guy or a tablet guy but there is no serious competition. Everything is either much worse, or much more expensive, or requires a contract. Which is another huge point in Apple's favor - for once, they actually have price on their side. And the no-contract data plans available for the iPad are so convenient vs. a required 2-year contract data plan on some competitors.
IMO a tablet with a required monthly plan is no different from a smartphone, it's just bigger. Especially ones like the Streak that don't even have a data-only option - you are required to buy a voice plan with a so-called tablet! It just doesn't make any sense; I don't know why they are calling it a tablet when it's really just a big smartphone.
You can avoid the plans altogether by buying the Streak without a contract, but the unsubsidized price is $550. Higher than the iPad.

look at the crucial requirements of a tablet, all of which apple got right and no one else has (even now):
1) turns on instantly
2) has a nice large, responsive touchscreen
3) gets great battery life
4) is reasonable priced
5) is easy to use and is fast/efficient at doing the few things a tablet is expected to do--surf net and email--in a bug free way
6) decent construction
7) has reasonable priced wireless connection
lets axe rselves will android/win7 have these features?
1) no/no!
2 )no/probably not
3) no/definitely not
4) apparently not/no
5) sort of/no
6) only at a much higher price/only at a much higher price
7) no/no
1. Are you saying Android devices don't have a sleep mode and a way from waking from it? That's what your "turn on instantly" is and all Android devices do it.
2. Large responsive touch screen? Modern Android phones have met or surpassed Apple in touch screen technology already.
3. Droid X gets better battery life than the iPhone 4. No reason why a large Android tablet won't get good battery life as well.
4. There are Android devices that are more advanced than the iPhone 4 but cheaper than it, no reason there won't be a reasonably priced Android tablet.
5. Android blows Apple away in web browsing experience. I've seen the "you do not have the right plugin to view this video" more times than I can count on my iPad.
6. Plenty of Android devices have extremely solid build quality.
7. Price of 3G is purely up to the carriers and nothing else.
