Which sync software u guys use?

SyncBack PRO here, been using it for years

Basically I set the source and the destination as my external USB drive and within seconds it finds the differences between the source and the destination and copies or deletes the data from the destination to make them a perfect match. You have to select MIRRORING s the backup type to have the contents of the destination be matched with the contents of the source

They also have a free version that does the same thing but with a few more options, does the job as well if you ask me

That doesn't sound like a great way to back up to be honest.
Any problems that you have with the source destination are going to be propagated to the backup.
 
GoodSync. It's not free, but you can set timers (My Outlook .pst file gets automatically backed up every two hours), and it even makes backups of deleted files on your target drive if you make a mistake. It has both a backup and a sync mode, depending on what you want to do. It's fast, too.

I use it to backup all of my music and movie files. All my system files are in Acronis image backups.

You can setup SyncBackPro to do Versioning. It keep multiple versions of backups. So, for your scenario, you can simply go back to an older version if a more current version has a bad file. Also SyncBackPro checks for drive warnings or failure using S.M.A.R.T.
 
I use Goodsync because it is a stablemate of RoboForm which I have used for decades.
