After doing 3 days of heavy research on ram, these 3 in particular were very impressive in testing.

They all were neck & neck in most of the benchmarks i viewed from various sites, so with that in mind, which of them would look the nicest in an X78 rig? my mobo will be->> ASRock X79 Extreme4 LGA 2011

1.) Kingston HyperX – Ti DDR3 1866 kit
2.) G.skill Ripjaws Z
3.) G.Skill Sniper
3.) Mushkin Redline Ridgeback Take ur pick Red or Black (both r nice)!
4.) Patriot Viper Xtreme series 2

So I’d like to know which memory do you all prefer, and which of the sticks I mentioned looks the coolest to you?
: They were all neck & neck, so aesthetics is all i'm after.

Plus do i go with cas 8 @ 1.5 volts or Cas7 @ 1.6 volts, which rout do i go?

plus i hear 1.5 volts is what sandybridge E likes.

Thanks!
Grave

Thanks in advance!

I don't think the model of RAM you buy is going to make much of a difference - but I've always had great luck with GSkill. The DDR3 standard is 1.5V, so you are best sticking with that.

Welcome to the forums.

For me, these are the best modules ATM for both underclocking and undervolting. Really fun playing around with them.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096

They don't have heatspeaders, mostly unnecessary in a well ventilated and cooled case. They are currently $39 with free shipping at Buy.com. I bought mine at Microcenter. Really nice thread about these modules on xtremeforums.

I've got a set of Sniper 1600 in my new build... works just fine... even with the silly heatsink that looks like a rifle.

If it's purely for aesthetics, pick the one that 'works' for you... you listed all decent quality components. Stick with the 1.5v.

One caveat... if you have a CPU cooler near the RAM slots, make sure a tall RAM card will fit next to the cooler...

Yes, the gskill are what i'll end up wit probably... they are low profile too so no probs w/the cooling system..if u get some bigass fan ya know...
thanks!

I lean towards buying higher quality memory...
Corsair Vengeance 7-8-8-24 @ 1600MHz on the JEDEC DDR3 standard 1.5v

Yes, i considered corsair vengence, i just didn't add to list...
my Bad
. But all the ones i mentioned are of the highest quality no?

Their all hand tested , with great benchmarks.

But the set you selected is kickass 4 sure...cas 7 @ 1.5 volt..thanks for the info...i know mushkin and g.skill have them at cas7 but i think their at 1.6 volt...so maybe i get the corsair....bud...thanks!

I'm talking a run of the mill 212+... I couldn't fit a 4th stick of Sniper in the RAM slot (on my mobo) without sliding the push fan up about 1/2-3/8" to clear it. o_O

Thanks for reminding me...i'm looking at my 9700 zalman fan on Q6600 right now, and my crucail ballistix tracer mem fits fine...but if i were to jam some kingston x-t1's or Patriot vipers, there could def.b a problm.

Ya know my rig still kicks ass and is 5 yrs. old... i won't even be building my system for another 6 months or more.

i got Q6600 @ 3.4 ghz - on asus p5k deluxe wi-fi - 4GB Crucial ballistix tracer 8500/1066 - evga 8800gtx, WD Raptor 10,000rpm, 2 wd caviar black 1 tb. and Seasonic 700 watt psu, Wrapped up
in a Thermaltake Armor Case.

She still kicks the teeth in of online punks in Fps games..! lol.

but i'm getting the itch for SSD HD and possibly wait for ivy bridge and i heard DDR4 is comming out soon.(5 months) or so...yippeee

Take care brother thanks!

I've NEVER bought internal PC components based on looks, and quite frankly, I'm SICK of all the stupid gun, car, alien, and Transformers shaped heatsinks and Fast and the Furious neons and covers and crap on everything.

A "gaming" computer to me just means top of the line highest performance parts, not something that has to look like it was decorated by an 8 year old with a Transformers fetish.

Ironically most parts with the word "gaming" in their name are underperforming budget bin parts with gaudy covers, leds, neons, and stickers on them. I'll take 64 GB of plain boring looking CAS7 Corsair XMS over an 8 GB CAS9 $25 Sniper Turbo UFO Ultra Xtreme Gamerz RAM with 10" high alien skulls on them.

(except for the dimms i have listed, as their all top performing cream of the crop ram )

However your post did make me laugh my ass off! If i were you, i'd start smoking weed (or resume) if I were as pissed off as you.
Burn one and look at all the perty heat spreaders, and if you really tie one on, then go on youtube and stare at the crucial ballistic tracer dimms (with flashing neon lights)....it'll have the same effect as if you were watching a salt water fishtank!
Cheerup....! with some 420 bro!

I knew they were back!
And now with software to detect thermal temps, and make that shizz dance like a mofo w/all green, blue, red, or combo of both with the included software! can even have it go to beats of music...lol! like i said in other post to the angry dude about alien heatsinks....if he watches these sticks on utube, it would be like smokin a fatty and watching a fish tank!
lol...nice pics...i have these dimms in my rig now..... their like 5 yrs old still going strong!

I have a pair of non-working DDR2 tracers :( In the RMA process, but I can't get replacement ones obviously... If only they just magically worked!

no shi* stumpy...i have to admit, 1 of my dimms f-ed up on me just recently, and they sent me a replacement.....they did'nt have the 8500/1066 ones , so i got some dimms that look like the samsungs someone else in this thread talked about (w/no heatshields).
Oh well, i can't view it anyhow while i'm on the pc, only when i used to show it off.
But the new dimms they sent are working and pc booting up again like it used too...
My pc is still good enough...Q6600 @ 3.0 ghz 8800gtx evga card..seasonic 700 w psu.

let me know what happened ....later
