I would guess that Alaska has the most coastline if that's what you're asking.

My guesses would be either florida or texas. not islands, but they've got more water around them than hawaii.

Yep, it could mean "which state has the most shoreline?"

Surrounded by water....% or miles of oceanfront?

Sure, Hawaii is 100% but California, Florida, or Alaska may have more oceanfront mileage.

No other state is "surrounded" by water, other than Hawaii. States like Texas and Florida have long coastlines, but they aren't surrounded. It's not too vauge.

Hawaii is surrounded by the largest volume of water (Pacific ocean with no other land mass within miles).

Lousiana has the longest coastline of any state if you count bays and lakes with outlets to the Gulf. If you only count marine coastline, it's Alaska, then Florida, then Louisiana.

Uh, no. Alaska.

The coastline of Alaska is longer than the entire coastline of the lower-forty-eight states of the United States.

Alaska has the longest coastline, approximately 10,700 kilometers (about 6,640 miles), which makes it longer than the coastline of the ?lower? 48 states combined. If all the islands of Alaska are included, the amount of coastline increases five-fold.

Alaska: The longest coastline in the U.S., 6,640 miles, greater than that of all other states combined

How many more times do I have to look it up? ;)

I'm really surprised that this is even up for debate. By land mass, Alaska is almost as large as the western U.S. Add to that the fact that the state is a gigantic peninsula, and then add in the Aleutian island archipelago and it's no contest.

Here's how I would answer the question:
Alaska by far has the most coastline, but Hawaii is the only state completely surrounded by water. Although Alaska is the only one surrounded by TWO oceans. Hawaii is only surrounded by the Pacific ocean.
