Which state in America is the most overrated/underrated?

I've had fun in every state I've ever been. I'm pretty good at looking at the glass half full and can find fun stuff to do most everywhere. As far as my home state goes, it has its flaws but I've had the pleasure of living in San Francisco, the Monterey Peninsula, Yosemite and the Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada and based on those, no, its not overrated. Well, maybe SoCal, but definitely not NorCal.

Yes, I think every state has its good parts like SF in CA and upstate NY (like Finger Lakes). However, the cost of living in SF doesn't make it feasible to live as well as taxes in NY. Visiting is ok, sure.

Texas sucks. Been to Dallas. My company was trying to move me there and I ended up quitting. And with all the rednecks running around with guns in their trucks screaming Obama being the devil and the black Muslim Antichrist, fuck no. I wouldn't move there. And I'm not even black 😉

What in the blue fuck are you on about? I've been here 3+ years and have not heard that many "y'alls" or seen too many spurs / cowboy hats.

Well, that's like your opinion man. The weather is shit there. Lots of racists, truck nutters. Place is full of a'holes. And btw, lots of Texans have y'alls.
Texas is the second last state in the US that I'd want to move to..just ahead of Arizona.

I've worked in Texas and known many Texans and I can say there's no single type of Texan. You sure do have a lot of redneck types, but rednecks are quite popular in upstate NY for Christ sake. Austin is nearly as liberal as Berkeley.

But, Texans do seem to elect some flat out fucked up people...

Cali overrated? That's like saying a Rib Eye cooked to perfection and served with a nice Saison's overrated. Some of the people here do suck. But I'd take living next to to worst Californians in a group and being able to live here. Over the nicest people on the planet but having to live in any other state.

When I go on a vacation it consists of me going to another part of California, that's how fucking awesome it is here.

I love Cali, particularly the mountains in the east, but driving in socal is just painful. I have family in Costa Mesa and we went out to a bar near the harbor and holy shit the girls there were insanely hot -- frickin incredible.

There are a few places like Santa Cruz that have too many of the hippie transient types that panhandle and otherwise make things a bit unpleasant but even there the good things way out weigh the bad.

Sadly, living along the coast is just out of reach for anyone without a net worth past $10M.

Cali is the Pacific and the mtns separated by Oklahoma. 90% of the state is crap and the other 10% does nit make up for it.

Underrated: Minnesota

Has your mother ever been there?

I asked, this is what she said:

"Every one's trying to make it to California so they can make it big; it's a big fat lie, you can't make it big in California. Everyone's supposed to have money... everyone's supposed to be famous... It's bullshit, California is full of crazies, perverts, and loons"

"Also, I've been through California on a Gray Hound Buss; I stopped at a gas station there, it was 3 or 4 in the morning. I washed my hair in the bathroom sink. That's as close to California as I ever wanted to be"

Are we talking north or south of 635? 😛
I mostly hang out north (the good part of FB, Addison, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Carrolton, etc.)

So the answer is NO she's never been there.

I'll take the fruits and nuts in Cali over rednecks any day. But the thing is, there are rednecks in Cali just as there are rednecks in every state. Go out into the agricultural center of Cali and you'll as many pickups with Easy Rider Rifle Racks as you do in the rural parts of Texas.

Of course, the places in Cali were Republicans outnumber Democrats tends to be the least desirable locations. The areas most dominated by Dems is where the money is -- along the coast...

Lol wat? Sounds like you were in the shit part of Dallas

I've been here well over a decade. I'm guilty of saying y'all, but truck nuts/blatant racism/rednecks with guns/"Obama is a socialist Muslim" aren't something I encounter regularly. Those just sound like stereotypes

also, y'all'll

Washington is horrid. It's fucking gray almost all year. If ain't gray then it's fucking sunny and raining or sunny and fucking freezing.

Overrated: Pacific Northwest.

Underrated: No clue.

Wasn't much gray this winter. Endless gorgeous hikes. Underrated = WA. Maybe OR too.

Overrated: CA.

Some seasons are better than others but the average is what counts. It still is a very gray place.

If it had more sun, it could be a very nice place.

California is also overrated. Beyond the fact that most of it is a drought ridden dust bowl that lacks any vegetation beyond a few palm trees and cacti, the Californian people are the worst part. So many people here who say they'd never move outside of California. Most of them haven't really even lived anywhere else...

Even with the gray, it's gorgeous here. I've done tons of hikes in the rain and still had awesome views.
