I voted DS9.

While I understand why alot of people would not like the show, I found it to be the best of Star Trek.

TNG was good, but too many episodes resorted to "A little ball of energy is floating through space, enters the star ship, and _____" (insert : the crew turns crazy, possesses a kid, eats away the ship, breaks the holodeck, causes the ship mainframe to crash, creates a bacteria which the ship spreads to the klingons and makes them almost go to war with the federation, breaks a terraforming machine) And every single time "It's a lifeform, we have to preserve this life!" All while they go blow up Romulans in the next episode.

While DS9 had a bunch of stupid episodes too, basically any of the trill episodes and alternate universe episodes, but if you just cut those out, the rest of the series was pretty good IMHO. There is nothing in Star Trek like the string of episodes at the start of the dominion war where the Cardassian spy agency is creating a fleet with the romulan spy agency to attack the dominion without the Cardassian government knowing about it, only to to get the smack down by a third spy agency.

I still thought Babylon 5 was better, even if it was bad acting and low budget. That had iteresting plot lines too.

TNG, primarily because I was a child in the 80s and that was the one that was on. I've seen a little of DS9 and a little of TOS, but TNG was the one from my childhood I have the fondest memories of.

Almost all of the stories from TNG (even the dreaded 1st season) focused on developing the characters somehow. Even when they were dealing with the stupid oil monster, the focus was always on peoples reactions and what made them human (or not).

All of the other series focused on the action which is fine until you realize after 7 seasons you still dont give a damn about any of them.

Well said sir and the main reason TOS was MILES above any other, some networks were showing crap like Lost in Space, thank god GR got NBC to buy into TOS....

I disliked DS9 from the 1st episode... if I remember right my reasons were Sisko took control of a lawless space station then parked it beside a wormhole. And there it stayed.

Star Trek means flying around the stars... Literally. But DS9 was like Gunsmoke and sisko was the sheriff. There were saloons and gambling, gunfighters to run out of town etc. I absolutely hated Odo and his subsequent biographical stories with his people once they met up.

I liked it better starting in the 3rd season.

You have to remember they started it when TNG was still running, and they really didnt need two serious about star fleet exploring space. It kinda makes sense you'd have one show dedicated to a station where various people come and go for different reasons.

This is a hard question to answer because what I think as the best ST series may not be the one I enjoy the most watching.

What I think is the best series:
TNG (DS9 a very close second)

What I enjoy the most watching:
DS9 (Voyager and TNG a very close second and third, in that order)

I also have to qualify that the above order does not include season one or two on any of the series. They are all pretty bad.

I clicked on this thread thinking "TNG is the best, but it probably won't win this vote." Pleasantly surprised.

You have to pretend that the first season of TNG didn't exist, when the entire crew except for Patrick Stewart couldn't act their way out of a wet paper bag. But as the show gelled and they got more comfortable, it was by far my favorite.

And if any other series could challenge it, TNG wins because of Counselor Troi's tight uniforms.

Yeah that first season was pretty brutal.. Q was bad, that lady security officer, big chain link fence in space. They would show some new wonder of the new star trek universe almost every show and sometimes it was total bs. Like when the captain got hit by a snowball that was thrown outside the holodeck door.

They split the ship into two sections in the first season but I don't think they ever did that again so I'm not sure what the point was. Families in space is a bad idea on a warship anyway.

First off I'm not a trekkie

TOS: I haven't watched enough to form a valid opinion.
TNG: My personal favorite.
DS9: I couldn't stand it when it was first aired. Later on I got into the reruns and now its my 2nd favorite.
VOY: I always enjoyed Voyager but its definitely not on par with TNG or DS9. Also the abrupt ending is complete crap.
Enterprise: Didn't enjoy it, didn't feel like star trek.

Enterprise NCC-1701-D was/will be? a Galaxy-class explorer, not a warship

TNG characters were predictable, and obvious. Almost everyone is a goody two shoe Starfleet academy clone. Sure they had two one dimensional characters to try to have a different perspective, Worf and Data, but they were even more predictable. Worf violence is the answer every time, and Data doing his Pinocchio routine.

DS9 had more character variety. No one in the entire TNG series was as interesting as Garak.

TNG characters had depth and backgrounds developed for them and more importantly, were far better actors than the DS9 crew.

For me, it's between TNG and Voyager. I voted Voyager in the poll to give it some love, but it really depends on my mood. Then comes TOS, which had a great cast but some pretty bad episodes and far too many near-omnipotent beings. Then DS9, only had 3 characters I particularly liked (Sisko, Quark, Garak). Lastly, Enterprise.

DS9's characters were exceptionally dull and until the Dominion War storyline, the stories were equally dull.

As a matter-of-fact, I think that is what separates TNG from all of the Star Trek series after TOS. The characters are interesting and likable, whereas they almost seem like cardboard cutouts in DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise.

Quark was pretty fun though, and what about Garek man? Garek was awesome. Worf had more interesting character changes in DS9 than he ever did in TNG and Kira certainly had her grey elements.

DS9 is a lot darker and more complicated than TNG was.

Voyager is horrible though. I should try to give it another shot but the acting and script is always groan worthy whenever I try and watch it. And the very idea of a "hot borg" continues to annoy me to the core of my being. But perhaps I've just had bad luck watching reruns. Lord knows TNG and DS9 had their share of turd episodes.

Troi is pretty alright, but Kira is the hottest regular cast member babe IMO. And that's despite a had haircut. Her ass just wouldn't quit.

I read that the rest of the cast were pretty half assing it until they realized Patrick Stewart was making them all look like shit.

I like TNG also, DS9 got boring after a while, but I liked it too, i only watch voyager when the borgs were on.. else i barely watched it.

Caught 1-2 of enterprise.. did not like it at all

Quark and Garek were awesome characters but on the whole, that's not a lot of praise considering they were mostly supporting characters. More so for Garek. Now that I think about it, I really only liked the non-federation characters. Weyoun was also awesome and Damar grew on me over the course of the war.

The only part of that, I think is partially true is that Patrick Stewart was the best actor.

But then look at his character, a Frenchman with a British accent, that's addicted to Earl Grey tea. Does that even make sense?
