Which Speakers?

This is probably like asking which is the best religion but here goes🙂)...
...Would you buy a new set of Altec Lansing 621 speakers or good condition Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers? Both are almost the same price.
Thx for your opinions.
Gary

i'd buy the logitech z560s since they're around the same price too

But if you're set in those 2, i'd get the klipsch, they are the best in their class.

Klipsch.

i'm not a big fan of the z560s after buying a set of mh-505s. (Since I mainly listen to music anyways).

Now I need to manage to get....oh...$400 is what 5.1 klipsch are going for right? 😀

Klipsch.

But you may want to consider Logitech's offering they've got some good low cost stuff out.

Klipsch

my system also doubles as an entertaimment center speakers so they are out in the living room, I honestly dont think any other speaker system would look good, the rest look sorta cheesy.

I'd say the Altec 621's, because the Klipsch are nice but sound too shrill to my ears. And the Logitech's are just toys.

Interesting because 90% (or more) of the other people in the world who don't think Klipsch are perfectly balanced say they're to bassy.
And the Logitech's are just toys.
Also interesting since they're THX certified (some models) and ALOT (again 90%'ish) of web sites/mags/reviews are recommending them these days.

One of the things I don't like about the 621s is the lack of a volume control on one of the speakers. My current Monsoons have that pucky thingy and it's a pain in the butt IMO.
Btw is there a headphone jack on the Klipschs?

Oh another thing that maybe you guys have an opinion on...I was planning to go with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card instead of Audigy or Audigy 2....what do you think?

What's interesting is that Klipsch speakers are universally recognized as having a "bright" sound and being somewhat bass-shy. I have no idea where you heard your claim, or what "90% of the world" is comparing them to, but I've been involved in the audio industry since 1977... But then again, you know 90% of the people in the world 😉

THX certification for multimedia speakers is a complete and total joke. It is entirely meaningless from a performance point of view and 100% marketing driven. However it does impress the ignorant. And I don't care if every magazine on Earth recommends the Logitechs, that doesn't change the fact that their build quality is like something from Toys-R-Us and would be an embarrassment to have on display outside of your kid's room.

To each their own but "90%" of the people I see recommending Logitechs simply aren't aware of all the other options available. They see a review by a 15 year old on a gaming web site and think it's The Word Of God and don't even bother to learn anything for themselves. Then they spout off stuff like 90% this and 90% that...

Thats their home/commercial stuff, not their PC speakers. There are people that don't like the sound of their horns. I own a shitload of Klipsch stuff and love them myself. But the too much bass thing applies to their PC line. And as far as the stereo stuff goes, while some do think they are too bright, it does not include a lack of bass. My KLF-20s have 2 10" drivers each and can put out an enormous amount of bass. Most of their speakers are similiar. But you do get a certain sort of high with the horns. I think its more accurate myself, at least in the case of my mains and the other big Klipschs I have heard.

As far as the Logitechs go, they are good. I don't think they are as good as the Promedias myself but they are not nearly as bad as you make them out. For the price they sell out they are very hard to beat.
