Somehow everytime I see aphex posting speaker threads I read it as "apex" and am then taken aback as I read what "apex" is planning to buy......

i didn't even know that HK made speakers... i guess they decided to when the whole HTIB craze got going.... i would suggest you look at Polk, they're pretty good, and they have long been regarded as good HT speakers.

as far as a receiver, especially if you can get a killer deal on them, HK makes great receivers, that have excellent sound processors, and very clean power.

personally, i have a denon 6.1 receiver (AVR 982) hooked to a polk 6.1 setup (RM-6810) and it all sounds excellent.

As for HK recievers, these are my options;

Harman Kardon AVR 130
5 x 45W 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$227.92

Harman Kardon AVR 230
6 x 50W 5.1-/6.1-/7.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$280.72

Harman Kardon AVR 330
7 x 55W 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$387.20

Harman Kardon AVR 430
7 x 65W 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$498.08

Harman Kardon AVR 630
7 x 75W 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$609.84

Harman Kardon DPR 2005
7 x 120W Digital Path Receiver
$886.16

Harman Kardon AVR 7300
7 x 110W 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$1,218.80

Obviously I wont be getting the highest end ones, but I think the 130 or 230 will be my best bet.

Definitely check out the internet only speakers listed above--any of them will be soooooo much better than the two packages listed. I got a Rocket package from av123 that sounds fantastic--look at their ELT package which should fall w/in your budget. With the 50% discount, get an HK receiver--very good equipment. I prefer Denon, but I don't have any 50% discount options!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Bestbuy has the Klipsch Quintet Speakers at 25% off this week, $299

Only problem is no sub, but im positive this setup would trump either of the two i was looking at.... Hmmm, it will cost considerably more though when i add a good sub....
