I currently have a SB pci 16. With Altec ACS 45.2.
I want to move to the 5 speaker set up. What card is best for listening to music.. with a 5 speaker set up.. i do play some games but mostly use it for burning and listening to my .shn files..Thanks

I just got the Aureal SQ2500 because i love the Aureal Vortex2 chipset and that it's cheap. I had a X-Gamer before and hated it. https://http://www.west-tech.com/P_766.htm

ps, I dont like a3d or eax just Direct Sound. And the SQ2500 does a better job with Direct Sound than the SB live cards.

eax = light 3d sound
a3d = medium 3d sound
Direct Sound = loud sound, not as good 3d sound but good enough.

You know I have the same question as you haygood2. I'm wondering if that new sound card from turtle beach (santa cruz) is any good, it even supports 6 speakers.

I would go for a Sb Live (make sure that you get the 2nd version with digital output) and a Videologic DigiTheatre, it is a really good combination, you may need to alter it slightly to get EAX output, but I think that it is good.

One of the good points about the SbLive!, Power DVD, Win DVD and Cinemaster support Dolby Digital 5.1 pass-thru with this.

The Videologic DigiTheatre is very good for listening to MP3's and DVD.

Looking a the Sonic Fury, it may well be very good as long as you can find a DVD player that will support it, that is if you are going to get a DVD player: http://www.videologic.com/ProductInfo/SonicFury.htm

This question comes up on the board nearly everyday and all the SB Live zealots say to get a live card. I hate to admit it but if you want some good driver support Creative's the way to go.

Of course, being the SB Live hater that I am, i own a SQ2500 and it kicks ass. My next card will be the Santa Cruz as soon as someone reviews it.

I have SBLive, and I think it's great. I upgraded from an AWE64 which is better than you have now, and I thought that the live was alot better, so you will notice an even bigger improvement.

I have been seriously been considering a Guillemot Fortissimo, the only thing that is holding me back is driver support. Damn its $80 at Compusa bundled with an Altec Lansing 5 piece speaker system (the speaks are worth $80 themselves).
