I am looking for a new sound card. I would like to watch DVD's, listen to music, and some gaming.

I have the Klipsch 5.1 Promedia speakers with the decoder unit.

I have the audigy 2 platinum. What kind do you have?

Which one would you recommend, and why?

Thanks!

I can't believe you've forgotten to list the SB Live! series, and opted to lump it with Creative's other sound cards.

i used to own an audigy 1...but the nforce2 soundstorm owned it..so i gave it away......sound blaster card's support SUX...drivers SUCK......garsh...had bad experience w/ both sb live and audigy...they were overhyped cards 🙁

soundstorm = convenient...comes w/ nvidia's well known driver support...and IMHO...better than audigy 1.....but probably not better than audigy 2..but isn't the 2 just a 6.1 version of the 1 😕

I went in this order with Audio:

SB Live! Value - VERY GOOD
Onboard audio on an MSI MOBO - FUXORED. My voice came thru like shyt.
SB Audigy Gamer - EXCELLENT
Onboard nForce2 Audio in a Shuttle SN45G - Meh, it's ok. sound bugs out and gets staticy sometimes in CS. But is heads and tails above the MSI audio

Someday, if the onboard audio REALLY irritates me, I may break down and find a deal on another Audigy. But aside from games, and the occasional voice convo's, I've never had a need for what some would consider "High Fidelity" audio.

The Audigy 2 is what the origianl Audigy should have been. AFAIK, the Audigy never produced true 24bit sound while the Audigy 2 does. That and it added 6.1 support.

Meh, I decided to stop supporting the devil and bought something not Creative.

Can't believe your not happy with the Audigy2 Platinum and the Klipsch 5.1, thats gotta be a killer setup......Audigy2 is probably best card i've had since the Aureal Vortex 2.

i am happy, but i would like to be happier. 😛

I'm primary interested in quality music playback, with a secondary interest in gaming. Since December, I've gone from SB Live! Value (OK) to Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (a quantum leap forward, well worth the $40 or so if you can catch it on a good Circuit City sale) to a M-AUdio Revolution. The M-Audio fidelity is somewhat superior to the Santa Cruz, but I have a very substantial problem.

Operating under Win2k (T-Bird 1.4, 512 MB DDR memory) my M-Audio Revolution hesitates every time either IDE chain is accessed. I've hunted for a solution to no avail. The sound quality on this card is great, but listening to CDs on my computer is akin to listening to a skipping record.

I keep hoping that there is a driver fix that will solve my problem. Otherwise I may have to pull my M-Audio and go back to the Santa Cruz.
