Which Sound Card?

Hi~
I have all of the other parts except:
1. Sound Card
2. Keyboard and Mouse
3. Headphone (Most likely than speaker cuz I live in an apartment, can't be too noisy..)
I'm now thinking to buy Sound Card instead of using the on board sound card cuz I want to experience better sound in the game and music.. Anyway.. Just want to ask some suggestion for one of these parts... I'm looking for the affordable one, but works great! Creative X-Fi and Audigy interest me, but I'm not sure which one.. :-/ thx!
 
If you're doing gaming, the X-Fi would be a very good choice.

Just make sure you get good headphones to justify spending that much on a soundcard.
 
Well, I was thinking Altec Lansing for the headphone..
Sound Card, I'm interested with Audigy or X-Fi..

But, I'm not sure too, on which model I should pick...??? :-/

Which Altec Lansings?

I'm not really a headphone guy, but something along the lines of a ~$100 or more pair of headphones from a real headphone company would be a good starting point I think.

There are some headphone recommendations in this thread if you want to take a look.

X-Fi is the undisputed champ for game content and even more so for use with headphones. Post rebate price of $70 shipped is higher than it has been recently but still not much of a premium over an Audigy 2. But even that would be huge difference both content and fidelity wise over on board -arguably more of a difference than betwixt the Audigy and X-Fi. So go with whichever you can budget and perhaps consider used if necessary or wait for a better deal on the X-Fi.

lol, I like your description of Bose. He should definatly consider an X-Fi for gaming though as long as he has good headphones. How much are your headphones going to cost?
 
Yeah I was wondering the same thing about that particular X-Fi card. I'm planning to get similar headphones, I hope they're as good as people say they are.
edit: btw, for your mouse if you still need to buy one, I would highly recommend either the Logitech G5 or G7.
edit: That sound card you linked to doesn't have any hardware acceleration, that's a bad thing for gaming.

The X-Fi Xtreme Gamer would be the other new X-Fi that creative put out that's on the cheaper side and it has hardware acceleration.

Buy.com is sold out right now, but if they come back it will be $50 with google checkout

What does the onboard audio sound like? The built in Analog Devices audio in the better Asus motherboards is suppose to be fairly decent.

I think you're right about it being a good deal.
 
I got these Sennheiser 590's about two years ago and love them. They were being discontinued so I got them for around $100 or so.

Decide on a rough budget for your headphones, and we can make some suggestions.
