Which Software is ideal for me?

Ok I tried using Zonealarm Security Suite first of all, but the problem is that it keeps disconnecting my MSN Messenger.

Then I used the McAfee Virus-Scan firewall. but I don't really like it personally and it is difficult to shut it down when I want unlike Zonealarm.

I desire a software with built in Antispyware and Antivirus and Firewall. Which is easy to shutdown and doesn't crash any programs like MSN or Azureus etc..

I would also like to be able to have it on in the background while playing Computer Games such as Counter-Strike: Source etc. I also need to know how to be able to configure the software to allow "Remote Desktop Connection" while being turned on in the background.

I quite liked Zonealarm, but is there a way to be able to configure it with remote desktop and stop MSN crashing?

Security Thread has a bunch of reviews/program suggestions on security applications
Freeware Applications lists some security apps.

I don't know if you'll find an all-in-one solution that meets your critieria. For example, AntiVir (of NOD32, if you go commercial) have minimal footprints, but don't offer firewalls or anti-spyware. I use Windows firewall, and have tried the Windows Defender Beta.

that is all built into Windows XP SP2 , you don't need anything else

but you should upgrade to Vista as soon as you can, because it is even better

just patch windows and you are good to go, no need for crappy extra software

Get a router for the firewall because there's nothing more secure than actual hardware between you and the Internet. Get Nod32 or AVG for Anti-Virus and download Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy for the rest.

i use ZAISA and it rocks. every update makes it better. as for problems with MSN, have you tried making the program trusted and adding the various ports?

I allowed it obiously, but I don't know which ports to open and there is all this TCP/UDP and other things as such which I don't understand.

Isn't that dangerous though?

What if you have some virus and need to get rid of it? Or some spyware?

I can't really be bothered to get a router, I always have Windows Firewall anyways..
Also, I don't like using so many different programs, it is a hassle to configure all of them not to disturb each other etc.. It is also harder to disable them one by one, and they also take up more RAM, and startup becomes slow too.

If you stay up to date on the updates and such you really dont need anti virus / spyware. Very very very few virus/spyware bugs get on a fully patched computer with out user intervention. I run a tech cd every few months and call it good.

Peach pie is probably the best option here. Could I get pumpkin instead, though, with lots of Cool Whip?

No, not really, because I PIRATED the software (arrrrrr!) and can't legally ask a question in the forums. I also thought there might be better programs out there that I could PIRATE (Arrrrr!) so I decided to ask here.

FIXED!!

I just never go to questionable websites and never click OK to anything. I don't have and never have had a firewall or anti-virus program installed and never had a problem
