Which server application ?

I need to install an application server but i don't know which use? Have U an idea ?

Install apps from it?
Run SQL Server or something on it?

I know nothing (or a little more) of server application and I'd like to know which server application is used and for which usage. The best will be if U have try an AS and U abandon this AS, why?

A application server is a host that runs an application (e-mail, database, custom, web). What application do you plan on running?

I use Citrix products.
Work well and have low bandwith requirements for travelling users.
