I just recently acquired a UMAX Astra 1220S scanner from a friend. It is a SCSI only scanner. I don't have a SCSI card, and I have never used a SCSI device in my life. I am confused as to what kind of card I should buy. Can someone recommend a nice cheap card, i only need to connect the scanner to my computer and nothing else. I don't need any fancy features, just plain stable connectvity. What card should i get?

Look on the FS/FT forums. You could most likely find one for 25 or 30 bucks. Just ask the trader about the compatibility, he'll know. Type in SCSI in the search bar on the Trade forums. Any SCSI card with an external connector should work though.

Tekram DC315U - $18 at Newegg. You need to know what kind of connector you need if you don't already have a cable. (and if so, you may need an adapter) A cable will probably cost more than the card.

If its a 25 pin scanner an Adaptec 2906 PCI card will do the trick. You can use a 50pin with an adaptor cable, but that puts the price up there. You can prolly find a 2906 used for 10-20 dollars. There are a number of controller cards with 25 pin interface that will suffice for scanner alone..

thx guys for the reply. I picked up an adaptec 2903b pci card with the external 25 pin connector so i wouldn't have to buy the adaptor. Thx, for the replies guys.
