Which runs hotter?

In comparable systems using comparable cpus with no overclocking. What cpu would run the hottest?

I have been searching all over for an answer but have not really found anything. Thanks

Neither run hot at all, until you start overclocking. Of course, the 90nm AM2 will run hotter than both the 65nm Brisbanes and the 65nm Intel CPU's.

The honda is faster, of course. You can keep adding type R stickers and yellow trim pieces until it goes as fast as you want. You can't do that with a truck.

Now, if you need to haul a dead bear a quarter mile in about 15 seconds the Ford Lightning may be a more practical choice. But never faster.

Definitely cavemen. They were around millions of years ago, and Adam and Eve only 5 or 6,000 years ago, according to the people who claim that science (or anything scientific) is evil.

"Hot" is a relative term because the temperature is proportional to the heat dissipation capacity of your heatsink. Look at the TDP for each chip and that basically gives you the answer (lower TDP = less heat produced = cooler running chip if they all used the same identical heatsink and mounting mechanism).

What about cavewomen? 😛

Cavewomen were pretty sexy those days, wearing only some lite bear skin and stuff.

There are some really cool running AM2 cpu's, with a BE tag if I'm not mistaken, they only come in 2-2.2ghz though. And as for the TDP, that's pretty misleading. People keep forgetting AMD is using an ondie memory controller, which also puts out heat. That heat is also added up into the TDP of the cpu, whereas Intel's memory controller is located on the Northbridge, which also puts out a significant amount of heat, but doesn't get added up to the TDP of the cpu. So in the end the amount of heat dumped into your case, in HTPC's for example, isn't going to vary much.

Are you sure that is bear skin? I thought it was more of a natural thing.
