Which retailer would you say has the best dead pixel policy?

I would've bought a laptop from newegg, but I noticed that their dead pixel policy is for seven dead pixels. To me, that's just ridiculous.

Which retailer would you suggest, based on price, performance (looking for a 15.4' screen, 7200 RPM HDD, and either a X700 or GeForce GO 6600), and dead pixel policy?

Best Buy has no dead pixel policy...their PSP is based on the manufacturer's policy. Gateway, for instance, will replace one dead pixel, Toshiba seven. Best Buy PSP can either be great for dead pixels or it can suck, depending on manufacturer.

I believe some Sager laptops have a 0 dead pixel policy with overnight shipping both ways (on them).

So are you saying if you buy a laptop at best buy without a PSP and you get it home and it has 1 dead pixel, best buy will replace it. Where as if you bought a PSP along with it, it will depend on the manufacturers dead pixel policy?

That certainly doesn't make any sense. He said, "Best Buy has no dead pixel policy." He didn't say, "Best Buy has a no dead pixel policy."
 
Yup, that's what I meant. 🙂

Best Buy's dead pixel policy is based on that of the manufacturer. So, for example, you can return a Gateway (Gateway retail ie eMachines) laptop if it has one dead pixel, but you cannot return a Toshiba (or most other makes) laptop with the same exact defect.

This also applies to their PSP.

So, if you're buying a laptop at Best Buy, get a Gateway, or prepare to suffer. 🙂
 
Best buy and Compusa have no dead pixle policy..you return it if you dont like it within the return period....I shop a lot on line (Newegg and Zipzoomfly) but would not buy a LCD from any of them just because of the unreasonable pixle return polices.
 
Not true.

You may return anything for any reason at Best Buy, but certain things like laptops or camcorders must be defective, or you pay a 15% restocking fee.

That's where the manufacturer's dead pixel policy comes in. If something is defective, Best Buy ships it to the manfucaturer and they get a credit. So if Gateway says one dead pixel is a defect, then Best Buy will except a return with one dead pixel without making you pay the restocking fee.

But if Toshiba says one dead pixel is not a defect, only seven or more, then Best Buy cannot ship them a laptop with one dead pixel and ask for a credit, because they will not get one. So they will not accept the return without making you pay the fee.

That is not to say you may not get away with it every now and then since not everyone at the returns desk knows everything, but it's not their policy.
 
Here's the final word on BBY people, seeing as I work there:

Most items: 30 days from date of purchase, no restocking fee
Radar detectors, digital cameras/camcorders, LAPTOPS, and a few other items: 14 days, if opened but not defective 15% restocking fee

If you buy a PSP on a notebook and you have or develop dead pixels, go in and ask them to replace the notebook. The PSP is a Performance Service Plan; if its not performing to your needs, they HAVE to take care of it. If you get some hard ass who isn't letting you do it, go to the next person in line. SOMEONE there will exchange it for you if you have a PSP. BBY LOVES to sell PSP's and accordingly they take care of customers who buy them. You gotta realize: a $200 PSP is PURE profit to them. Obviously it costs them later, but in terms of what the stores measure in daily sales, PSP's are gold.

If you have a PSP, as long as it doesn't look like you took a hammer to it they should fix it/replace it for you. If one person say no, find someone who won't. Remember, YOU are the customer 😉
 
I'd like to know which Best Buy you work at, because the ones in New York City won't do it.

I've spoken to many people at the Geek Squad desks, and they all say the same thing: we'll replace anything you don't like except the screen, which we base on the manufacturer's policy. In other words, a Toshiba with one dead pixel is not considered defective.

That sucks man. Lemme talk to my buddy and see if they actually stick to that sh!t here
