MX-500

logitech 680

I'm leaning towards the MX-500 as it has the bigger buttons. I'm going to be using this with a home theater computer running girder.
and it will control the TV and receiver.

I also prefer hard buttons over the other choice.

I think the MX-500 offers more bang for your buck but the 680 is newer with more features.

I bought the MX-500 after my original TV remote crapped out on me. I absolutely love it because I can control everything (TV, DVD, VHS) from one remote. I personally like hard buttons on this remote and like the backlit feature. I'm not certain of the full capability of the remote because I've just used the basic functions and it has worked great.

There is a 25% off mail-in rebate going on now through Mar 15 for eligible Harmony model numbers: 659, 676, 680, 688

I have a 659 & an MX 500, they're both excellent.

The Harmony is pretty trouble free & the web set up is nothing short of amazing, however the MX is pretty good too.

I'd jump on the Harmony because of the rebate.

I get 50% off logitech... I wonder if the rebate will work on top of this... now that'd be a hot deal.

EDIT>> Bah, I don't think I want to spend > $75 on a remote control.

I have the MX-500, and I love it. I went from about 5 remotes down to one, and it controls everything fine.

rh71 if you mean through the logitech reseller program, Harmony remotes are more like 60% off.

As for the original question, the Harmony. The ability to keep track of what youve already done is awsome, to beable to hit one button and have it turn off my ReplayTV, switch the TV to the right video input (it keeps track of which input your currently on), switching the DVD player on, and turn on the receiver, and then set it to the correct input.... beyond awsome.

Macro's on other remots can do some of that, but nowhere near to the extent of the Harmony, it keeps track of what input your on so it know how many time to switch the input, it keeps track of whats on and off... and it's all web based, SOOOO easy to program.

True, I just noticed it's more than 50% off, but they of course have original price jacked up to $199. So it's going to cost $80 + ~$10 shipping.

I have the mx500 and would highly recommend it.

I can't compare it to the 680 because I have never used it but it looks pretty nice.

EDIT: for those that own the logitech, do you just hook it up to your pc to program the macros, etc?
I think they came out with a cable/software to do this on the mx500 that I thought about getting but I really like the looks of this logitech the more I see it.

I have the 680 and am very happy with it. It takes some time to get everything set up properly, but it's great otherwise.
