Harmony.... by far the best remote around these days as long as your configuration isnt too complex.

So, i found out dell sells these and has a $20 off coupon right now and a $20 MIR. Combined with a $50 concession coupon, i can pick up the Harmony 676 for around $59 + tax (free shipping).

Still reccommended?

Why are these remotes so ugly? The Sony looks good but is a really bad shape. The MX-500 looks like something out of an 80s sci fi movie, and the Logitech looks like one of those ugly cell phones. If I had the kapital to create a remote control company, I'd be sure to hire a good designer, or do it myself.

I have the Sony one (or something that looks exactly like it) and it works great. It's larger but still works fine when you use 2 hands or have it sitting on a table...

Actually Harmony are really good. The thing with sony is they become out dated but harmony you can constantly send new codes to it via the online deal they have. I did a ton of research on this stuff before i got my TSU3000 and if i didn't get the pronto i would have gotten the harmony. I say go with the harmony unless you can afford and want the satisfaction of programming your own pronto.

What's better, the 676, or the 688? This is for controlling a bunch of HT stuff and expanding.

I'm enjoying my Sony 3100. I don't really care though if I'm holding it with one or two hands so size is not a concern for me. I wanted something that could handle all my HT stuff and the touch screen is very responsive

From looking at the two and reading some reviews, it seems as though the button layout on the 676 is more comfortable...

All harmony remotes are pretty much the same (with the exception of the new 880 which rocks but costs alot more). If you change equipment alot def get the harmony. It literally takes less than 5 mins to add new devices vs any other remote where you have to redo most of your macros takes alot longer.

Have you found any reviews for the 676?

Do you use a PVR (ReplayTV or Tivo)?

I actually emailed Harmony and asked them for detailed information on both and which i should buy. They told me to get the less expensive one...i was shocked. You might want to ask them.

I found a review for the 676 and 688, it looks like the 676 is actually a newer version of the 688 with a better layout.

If you're coming down to South FL (by Sawgrass) anytime soon I should be able to get the 688 for ~$100 new.

yeah the only differences between any harmony remote is the button layouts (and color screen/motion sensor/base station on the 880). The power of harmony is that they use one big database for all their remotes (making it a breeze to upgrade remotes, takes about 2 mins to upgrade) also since they have one massive remote database they can keep it updated better and keep growing as new devices are released.

so any harmony will be able to control the same things (and I havent found a device that there isnt a harmony code set for yet, sans the RF stuff since harmony can only do IR equipment)

I got a cheap Harmony 659 but we're big time Tivo users. Do you think I should keep it or sell it?

the 659 should work for tivo (sans the button layout not being the best.. transport controls at the bottom). Personally I would get the 880 (I am as soon as they come out nationally on the 10th of june and not the 30 day bb exclusive where they are priced at $249).

Also you can go ahead and use the 659 for a week or so and configure it how you like and when/if you upgrade it will keep all your current configurations since there is one database all you do is plug in the new remote and it does the rest and will function just like the 659.

the only differences between any harmony 6xx series remotes are the button layout... they all function in the same way.
