Which religions forbid premarital sex?

Call me ignorant, but which religions actually have texts, or some sort of "physical" evidence that forbids premarital sex? It seems like people like to cite religion as a reason for remaining 'pure', but I always wondered if it's just because they were brought up that way, or if there's a religious tie to it.

there was a thread about this a while back debating on whether or not the premarital sex thing was directly linked to religion.

all of them.

Uhm, Hindu does not. Certain sects of Judism does not.

i was kidding. of course there are religions out there that require that you sleep with dozens of people... or so called sleep with your priests/priestess for different reasons. but in this country... i don't think anyone follows those anyway... i'm catholic... and my friends could care less about premarital sex.

Geez, I'm sorry to hear that.
My last girlfriend was Catholic, too. She was always apologzing for everything. You folks have a way of feeling guilty about everything. Unlike most of my Jewish friends who make you feel guilty about everything.

So uh, which ones do forbid it?

Christianity apparently. What else? I assume there's something in the Qu'ran for Muslims?

Nor does Buddhism.

You sure? Any proof that Hindu doesn't say it forbids premarital sex? Text would be very useful :D

Regardless of whether or not it is strictly forbidden by any religion, I think that not engaging in pre-marital sex it is one of the best presents
you could give to your future spouse.

Playboy did a piece about the views of sex in the different relitions. Im pretty sure that all of them forbid premarital sex. Ill have to look at it when i get home tonight and post my findings.

Yeah, us Catholics are second only to the Jews in guilt.

Episcopalian (sp?) has been described as "Catholic Lite. All the religion, one third the guilt."
