Which region of the US would you recommend for a move?

Due to the limited number of jobs in my field in the immediate area, I may have to relocate. I currently live in Charlotte, NC so I'd prefer a location outside of the Southeast. Please specify which state/city in the particular region you prefer.

NOT the southeast.

edit: opposite of southeast sounds good.

Yeah, I really just put that on the poll for the sake of it. I consider the area I live to be the most tolerable in the SE as it is.

I like cool weather, and not many people. If I were to move out of MD, I'd go to Washington, or Maine. Washington would probably have more fun things for a young guy, Maine is more laid back, without as much to do.

I've thought about Washington. Its high on my list.

central north east... Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania,

Funny...😛

I have lived in the Midwest and the Southwest, and much prefer the southwest.

In the midwest, I lived in Columbus, Ohio, which is a nice city and still has lots of work last I asked my mom, but the winters there are too depression inducing. I now live near Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the jobs are very scarce except in Albuquerque and Las Cruces. The weather here is many times better than columbus, but there is still a short growing season.

What kind of work are you looking for?

I'll be working in radiation oncology. I am planning on picking where I go by going where the jobs take me. I can also do travel work (13 weeks one place, 13 in another, etc).

What kind of weather do you prefer?

What kind of "culture" do you prefer?

For me, nothing east of the Rockies would suffice.

I prefer the laid-back attitudes out west over the "hurry, hurry" ways that you find back east, especially in the cities...(north east, not south east)

It sounds like your profession should give you lots of options.

I prefer the cold and snowy weather of the northeast, but the red state culture of the southeast. Help.

I prefer a less humid/hot climate. I've been to Montana and found I can tolerate the high 90s with low humidity, but I'd probably still loathe the 100s in AZ. I can deal with some winter weather but not too much. I liked some parts of Colorado when I was there this past summer.

I am more liberal than the average person I suppose, but I am by no means a hippy of any sort. After all I grew up in the SE. I like going to concerts, hiking, and I enjoy owning guns (but this isn't a deal breaker).

I live in Burlington VT now... it's got a record for being ultra-liberal and it is, but if you get more then 25 miles from the "city" it's like being in the deep south... it's much like way way upstate NY in this regards.

If you have the option I'd do the travel thing for a year or so and move around the country. You'd get a great way to see the country and decide where you want to live.

I've thought about VT and NH. I loved ME when I visited so maybe it would work out.

I think I might.

Wages tend to be lower in the Southwest than in other parts of the country (other than the Southeast where wages tend to be lower still).

Often those traveling jobs pay a bit more and/or throw in things like housing so you don't have to deal with it. Any perks that would make it more attractive? If the bump in pay/savings from not paying for housing is enough it could help you get to a down payment for a permanent home faster than you would otherwise.

Seattle is very nice but rents are high and housing prices are ridiculous because they decided to build the city on the most narrow strip of land in the entire state.
