I wish I had your speakers (I've got AR 318PS fronts, 228PS bookshelves and a 215PS Center), but I second the motion on the Velodyne. Those speakers combined with the Velodyne 12" Sound great along with the 3802. :) That being said, I can't wait until I can afford my next purchase, upgrading to some PSBs. :D

Thanks- I've just got a Velodyne 10" right now, but it's already 300% more than I need since I piss my neighbors off with it on a weekly basis (gosh I love that thing). I love the sweet sound of my Polks and will be hanging onto them for a looooong time. Just last night, I enjoyed a personal concert from Enya, 8' back from the stage and no crowd... at least, that's what it sounded like. If anything, I might go for some Paradigm Monitor 8s or something a few years down the road, but I need to upgrade my reciever FIRST to get some better sound. PSBs are supposed to be really good!! I wish I had a place nearby where I could audition a set. They're ~about~ on the same level as Polks to my understanding; maybe 1 notch above.

Yeah, the speakers can wait for the time being. I cranked up LOTR last night to a suitable volume, and it was unbelievable. Better than watching it in the theater - I didn't have to listen to the obligatory assholes behind me opening candy and whispering through the movie. :D

HA! I agree- ever since I built my own HT setup last August (whoa, a year ago this week!), I haven't been to a real theater. What setup do you have right now?

Wow, someone who actually bought Bose! :Q:p Seriously, they are good sounding speakers- that's a sweet setup!! A friend of mine a few years ago had a Bose 5.1 setup in his dorm room and it was AWESOME. Bass was a little lacking, but it sounded great. The electronic satellite beep scans and similar special effects in the DVD movie, 'Enemy of the State', sounded really cool on it.

The bass on the Acoustimass 15's is unreal.....a buddy of mine has the 10's and I was looking at those until I went to a party at guy's house who had the 15's and was blown away. They cost a ton but are worth it I think. I mean really how often are you going to be buying new speaker setup?

Here's the measurements off the Acoustimass(subwoofer) part of the speakers.

[Acoustimass module: 14"H x 23 3/8"W x 7 1/2"D (35.5 x 59 x 19 cm)

You can go here and look at the speakers and their specs.

LMAO! Not one, but two 5 1/4" "woofers" How the heck can you get decent bass out of a 5 1/4" speaker? :)

I have one of these:

SVS PCi 25-31

Lemme tell ya, this thing is friggin insane! :D :D :D Tell me... with that Bose sub, does your house shake when you crank it up to reference level? Mine does.... :)

Back to the topic at hand... I have an HK AVR 520 receiver and love it! I picked it over the Yamaha RXV-1200 and I haven't regretted it. To me it sounds better for music than the Yamaha did, and that was more important to me than HT performance.

I don't care if it shakes my house or not. I want it to sound good for movies and for music.

Hehe... if Bose sounds good to you, more power to ya! :) Just don't compare your sub to anything else, because you won't like the results.... :) FWIW, I rarely run my SVS at reference level (normally 15-20db below) and it sounds absolutely amazing, lightyears ahead of anything else I've heard for the price...

Anyway, enough with the thread hijack...

For you price range, I can HIGHLY reccomend two different sets. One is the HTD (home theater direct) Level 2 set, which includes a sub, for $500. For a little less you can go the route I did, and get the Fluance 5 speaker set. http://www.fluance.com/fluanceavhtb.html for only $199. Add in the the Sony AW 12" sub woofer for $150 and you have a kick ass set up for under $400. For reviews, goto cnet for the HTD level 2, and cheaphometheater.com for the sony sub. As for the Fluance, just do a search on hometheaterforums. The Sony Sub for $150 is said to be comparable to $500-600 subs, and either speaker set is comparable to a $1000 set up. Hope this helps.

NO offense, then you never heard real speakers. And no they are not worth the money, you may like the way they sound, but they sure as hell aint worth the money. You could get some FAAAAR better speakers for less or the same money. Hell, my HK 5.1 speakers (75 watt-8" powered sub included) that I paid $114 brand new off of UBId a few years ago absolutely SMOKE ANY bose, including the 15s that my buddy has. The comparison isnt even close. I am not even claiming that my speakers are all that or even recommending them. Bose is crappy, inferior components, but great marketing. Thats all!
Go to any of the HT sites or hang out with real audiophiles. BOSE name wont ever even come up.

You're right. I've somehow managed to live to be 32 years old without ever hearing some good speakers. I've heard all different sorts of HT setups and have heard several Bose systems that sounded damn good. Of course I've also head Polk, Klipsch, Atlantic Tech, etc, etc, etc.... and they all sounded good. The Bose setup I have was not my first, second, or even third set I have had. My first set were B&W, second set was Cambridge, and third set was Klipsch. None of them sounded as good as what I thought they should and after hearing the 15's in a setup similar to my room I was sold. My living room has 20 foot cathedral ceilings, is 26 ft x 18ft, and is open to the game room and bar which is also a large room(24x16). None of the speakers gave me the depth of sound I thought I should be getting in that space until I tried the Bose. They sound great and I'm sold on them. So you don't like them. Big deal.
