Hey Guys,

Im in the market for a new mouse and was wondering if Razers' mouses were suitable for me? I rarely game and mostly use my computer to surf and edit photos. I was looking at the Deathadder, but I think it may be too much of a mouse for me. I currently have the Logitech MX Revolution which is nice, but I am not a big fan of wireless. Im also looking at the Razer Pro and Habu. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IMO a Razer Deathadder is overkill for what is sounds like you are using your computer for. I would recommend going for a cheap Logitech mouse as they are a good brand. Alternatively you could go to a local electronics retailer such as Best Buy or MicroCenter and test out the various mice they have to find one that you are most comfortable with. Unless you have a specific reason to get a high end mouse I would stick to a mouse that costs less than $20 (USD). If you need a sensitive mouse for photo editing you might try the Logitech G5 which is still cheaper than the Deathadder.

Keep in mind that the Razer Pro is essentially the same thing as the Razer Diamondback, so whichever you can get for cheaper unless you want the blander (more professional? :p) look of the Pro version...

I'd have to disagree with a G5 recommendation, seeing as how only the newer (and significantly more expensive) version has the two thumb buttons (mouse buttons 4 and 5 for forwards/backwards functions when browsing). The Habu might be the best bet in this scenario as it not only has those two side buttons but comes with an alternate set for different positions and thus you can pick which bests suits your grip. The 6th and 7th buttons are just behind the scroll wheel and are set to changing the mouse's dpi up and down by default. This is an advantage over a mouse such as the Razer Pro or Diamondback as those mice have a symmetrical design to cater to left handers as much as right handers and thus the 6th and 7th buttons aren't placed in the best position for steady use.

Just toying around with my mice I find 1600dpi to be about all that is necessary on the high end unless you're working with higher resolution screens where I've found my 1800dpi DeathAdder and 2000dpi Copperhead and Habu to be all the more enjoyable to use. With such mice you can keep the dpi cranked for regular use and dial it down should you need finer control...of course all the Razer mice - should you use their drivers - come with an option to change driver specific sensitivity on the fly (from 1 to 10 in 0.5 increments) which is even more useful.

I think you should really figure out a budget of how much you're willing to spend and then go from there.

If you're really into getting something under the Razer brand for more casual use, I suggest looking at the Razer Krait.

It's a razer mouse without the extra buttons and a little bit less flare, but still with great 1600 DPI and the razer shape. It's usually cheaper than the other Razer mice as well.

I don't know about him but you just made a sale for newegg. I hate most of the fat laser mice and prefer the more traditional style. I have a couple of lasers that I quit using because of the grip. That mouse looks perfect to me and the black body and yellow orange glow probably will match my external Seagate Freeagent hard drive and cooler master mystique case.

None.

No, really. None.

If you describe yourself as a casual computer user then you wont care about having a mouse like that. You wont be impressed, I promise.
If you still think you need one just go to Newegg or maybe ebay and get the cheapest thing you can find that is an actual Razer. Again, since you are a casual user the exact model wont matter.

I take it back, forget newegg, too much money.
Just find a used one or a real old model somewhere online. Pricewatch.com and Pricegrabber.com have always been good to me.

Used mouse? Even if it functioned perfectly and was free I wouldn't want a used mouse.
