Which RAM with a 2.4c and Abit IC-7? Is Corsair XMS3200LL no good with this?

I heard that the IC-7 has problems with Corsair XMS3200LL where it can't run with the tight timings. Can anyone confirm this? I was planning on getting this ram but if there is a problem, can anyone tell me what ram would be good with this combo?

Which one of these would you get? I've narrowed it down to 4 of these choices. The description was taken from atacom. I have a friend that works there that can get me a discount...

*OCZ PC3500 DUAL-CHANNEL EL DDR 512MB(256X2) 433MHz CAS2 -OPTIMIZED ED

*OCZ PC3200 DUAL-CHANNEL EL DDR 512MB(256X2) 400MHz DDR CAS2 - PLATINUM EDITION

*CORSAIR PC3700 512MB DDR467 (TWINX512-3700)-256MBx2

*CORSAIR PC3200 512MB DDR400 CAS2 (TWINX512-3200LLPT)-256MBx2-SILVER

Not true. I've used the exact ram with my 2.4C and IC7, no issues at 2-2-2-5 timings but at 5:4 memory ratio, and default vdimm at 250 fsb. This issue was long abolished with Abits latest bios updates. Your only limitations with this ram is how high you can overclock with it. I was only able to go 2-6-3-2 timings at DDR430 at best. The biggest limitations with these sticks are you cannot use them with lower timings - ie: 2.5-7-3-3, and try and overclock them further than pc3500 speeds. I just could not get them to work as they are rated Low Latency.

Forget about these, get the OCZ 3700EL Golds. You will be thanking yourself later. If you cannot get the Golds, then I'd suggest the Corsair pc3500C2s

OCZ 3700 can not run tight timings and is only available in 256 Meg sticks. He looks like he wants 2 x 512 sticks.

i actually want 2x256...

can anyone clear up the difference between corsair CMX512-3200LL w/ the blackheatspreader and CMX512-3200LL w/ the platinum silver heatspreader?
I can't seem to find a difference. which one of these is better?

thanks btw to thor and oldfart..

Is Hyper X not an option for you?

I picked up 2x512 PC 3200 for $ 100.00 a stick...

Does 220 FSB 2/3/3/6

🙂

is hyper x better than corsair xms3200LL? im just trying to get ram thats at a decent price.. (those are $150)

It would help if you told us what you intend to do with your new system. Are you going to run it default or overclocked?

No difference in the heatspreaders on Corsair ram other than asthetics.

i am gonna overclock. Hopefully i will hit 275fsb using the 5:4 ratio. I think i've gone with your advice and decided to go with the OCZ 3700 gold as i can get them at a fairly decent price ($174). Now i'm just wondering what setup would give me better performance- 2.4c@3.3 (275fsb, DDR440, 5:4 ratio) or 2.4c@3.0(250fsb, DDR500, 1:1 ratio)? I'm hoping the OCZ will hit ddr500 as i heard a lot of them will.

Interesting, you are aiming for the same as what I currently have.

Just to let you now, if you are planning on running 1:1 ratio, your memory timings with the OCZ ram will be 2.5-3-3-7 at the tightest timings - looser if your ram can't oc well - more like 3-4-4-8 at ddr500+. Otherwise 2-3-3-7 is the tightest it will run at anything ddr440 and lower - which is what I run at now using 5:4 ratios with my 2.4C. I prefer the +300mhz cpu clock over 1:1 ratio, feels snappier/faster for me. Good luck.
