Which ram to get?

Hi guys,

I am going to build my first computer, and im not sure what to get for ram. I basicly narrowed the choices to the ones listed in the topic, and I don't want to get ram more than 100 dollars. The corsiar runs for 80, and the other two run for 100. i might overclock a little, but only if I will see a pefromance increase in ocing the ram.
The mobo im getting is going to be a dfi ultra d.

What would you guys get?

Are the ocz and twinmos worth the extra 20?

check the specs on the ram and see which ones. i have samsung and hynix ram (which are the actuall chip makers, kingston doesn't for example). they are pc3200 at 400 mhz, 1gb.

Yeah, i know, but its hard to tell with value ram. Teh corsair chips just say "value", Twinmos has some winbond utt ones, and some powerchip ones, and im not sure about the ocz ones, but I know they are just the untested VX golds.

well it comes down to can you supply the voltage for that twinmos ram. your going to need 3+ volts for that to overclock well. your best bet is the g.skill i listed earlier

Im planning to get a dfi ultra d so i will have the volts ready. are you sure about the gskill? the other ones got better reviews than it.

get the g.skill or the ocz RAM. I have the Ultra-D and corsair VS and I have to run the memory at 187Mhz (DDR 374) to OC to 2.2Ghz on my 3000+.

I think it may be the RAM that is holding back the OC because the only thing I change after a failed bootup is the RAM divider and then I can prime and memtest for 16hrs w/o any errors.

sry, this might be a little ot, but i want to know if its worth it to get better ram.
so can you see a difference in performance when overclocking? if you can't, wouldn't it just be better to get corsairVS?

I've seen several burnout stories on the UTT-based RAM after about 3 months. If you don't want to overclock for the heck of it, corsair VS gets pretty much universal good reviews.

Twinmos.

3.1-3.4V for 24/7.

3.6V is the max I would give this ram, for benches only.

You could just get the OCZ value that has UTT, you have to look for a specific model # on newegg.

Its garuntied UTT.

I'm saying it's risky. Are you going to tell me that running some value ram @ 3.5 volts isn't risky?

Well if they break that easily OCZ won't be providing lifetime warranty for 3.5V voltage

Also the Value VX series are not rejected RAM. they are randomly selected from the VX Gold series before they went to full testing. So basically they are the same RAM

I have gotten 3 sticks of the "TMSP" model for $55-57 and 2 of them were UTT and 1 was BH-5.

I don't know HOW you can lose. ALL of the TMSP ones are either UTT or BH-5 from what I hear on other forums like Xtremesystems/OCForums.

There's no point in getting a DFI board if you're going to pair it with value ram. It's an overclocker's board, so you're wasting money by pairing it with shittily overclocking ram. You WILL be using a very relaxed divider lol
