I read the article above that talkes about how memory timing affects peformance. In most cases, memory timing did not really affect performance that much. It made the biggest difference with P4 systems. With athlon 64's it didn't seem to make that much of a difference. I guess im asking this because i currently have 1x512MB of memory and want to upgrade to 1GB. I have one stick of Geil value ram with a blue heat sink on an Athlon64 system running at 241FSB. Not to shabby for value ram i think. Anyways, i was thinking on either getting another stick of the value ram or upgrading my memory all together with OCZ or Kingston HyperX. I definitly don't want to buy say just a stick of say HyperX and leave my existing stick in there because i have heard bad compatability problems with the Athlon 64 systems if you use two kind of memory types. Oh i almost forgot, my memory is running at CL 2.5, crashes when i lower it to 2, and default timing. I pretty much think my overclock is CPU limited at this point. Do you guys agree with my conclusion that it would only be smart to buy the more expensive ram if i was expecting a better overclock and just not for better timing? My next system will probably be a dual core athlon 64 and i will probably need a new type of memory when that happens so i don't think the new stuff would actually last longer.
Your opinions would be greatly apprecaited.
