Which RAM should I get for Athlon64 2800/3000 based system...

running stock speed?

I'm not gonna overclock. will probably go with Epox 8KDA3J...

Is PC2700 rated RAM good enough?

TIA!

PC 2700 = 333MHz

PC3200 = 400MHz

Does the Epox board lack the proper divider to run the memory @ 333MHz, or is it a chipset/CPU restriction?

Since the controller is on the chip the actual memory speed seems to play less of a factor. I have an a64 3000+ on an ak86-l. I've tried 266, 333 and 400 plus overclocking at each setting (228fsb seems to be tops for the ak86-l I have). I have run every standard gaming benchmark, aquamark, 3dmark01 and 03 as well as sisoft. All in all the biggest difference was in sisoft on the memory test. But it didn't translate into much on the actual gaming side. Could be a mute point since I haven't gotten my 6800gt in yet, so I'm running a 9500pro @ 381/334. I plan on rerunning everything again to see if there is a bigger increase at the different memory settings with the new graphics card. Many other ppl have noticed the same thing though. Memory speed doesn't seem to translate into as much a performance gain as it used to mainly because the controller is on the cpu now.

jus get some cheap 3200 ram, CAS latencies and timings dont matter on the 64 becoz of its on CPU memory controller, but definately 3200 should be the min

remember tho if u fill all the DIMM slots with memory modules then the A64 memory controller will not be able to handle it properly and the ram will then be underclocked to 266 or 333

Dual-channel isn't an issue with Socket 754 boards, but if you're getting 1024MB you're still better off with 2 x 512MB because the memory will be faster.

From what I have read the Mhz on RAM matters very little on A64 so most likely if you already have PC2700 it will be fine. IF you are going to buy new though just grab PC3200

What about double/one side modules? which should I pick up? will either work? does it matter if I go for one stick instead of two?
