Which Radeon card to get.

9800NP if you can find it. The 9700 Pro performs just as well as a 9800NP, so it is also a good choice.

Stay away from the 9600's because they only have 4 rendering pipelines as opposed to the 9700/9800's which have 8. Think of it as an investment...the 9800 will last longer b4 you need to replace it.

Thats a bit harsh dont ya think? If you are going from a geforce 2 to a 9600 pro I think its a good jump. It will play everything out right now and more.

I've been contemplating between the 3 cards also.. however I decided on a Radeon 9500Pro. It's better overall against the 9600 series and a bit slower than the 9700Pro. The 9500Pro costs the same as the 9600Pro/XT anyhow.

Some can point to 9600 good overclock potential, but the 9500Pro also has good overclocking potential.

according to one of the reviews posted in a thread, the 9600 XT @ stock was faster than a 9500 pro @ stock

I hate to throw a monkey wrench in your 9500pro plans ?. KGB. I had posted some stuff about the 9600pro doing better against the 9500pro in some of the latest reviews. THG?s 9800XT review and the 5950/5700 Firingsquad review (15 games total) the 9600pro and 9500pro were in a dead heat performance wise.

It?s hard to find newer reviews with the 9500pro but in the HardOCP 5700U review they had both a 9500pro/9600XT. The 9600XT won 5/8 game benches and looked a little faster overall, but the cards are pretty close with each of them trading benchmarks In the digilife 80 video card roundup article the XT was faster in all 5 game benches ?

I don?t know where digitlife got those 9500pro benches from, they have been known to rehash old benches without benefit of driver updates, but that was one slow 9500pro. It could be ATI?s unified compiler technology (3.6 Catalysts and above) have helped the 9600pro core a little more than the 9500. The original reviews with the 9600pro were with the 3.2?s I think. At the same price I would take the 9600XT over the 9500pro, although I know some people will still probably disagree with me. They are both good cards.

9500Pro is not even near 9700Pro!!!
