which PSU?

Hi,

I am planning on assembling the following system:

A64 3500+ (90nm)
ASUS A8N SLI/K8NXP-SLI
4GB OCZ DDR 400 Performance
Maxtor 300GB Maxline III SATA
NEC 3500A
Samsung 213T

1. I'm not sure which CPU Cooler to get? A Zalman 7700Cu or something else?

2. Is it worth getting a 6800GT instead of a 6800U or 800XT? I play games but not all the time.

3. Everything will run at stock speeds. I'm confused as to which PSU to get. Is a 520W PSU enough for this config, in which case is an OCZ 520W Powerstream good or should I go for something else? or if need more power should I go for the OCZ 600W Powerstream, or Enermax 600W Noisetaker, or the PC&C Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe. System stability is very important to me and I want to be able to upgrade without having to change the PSU atleast for the next 2 years. Someone pls let me know. Thanks.

520w is more than enough, you could get any name brand PSU from 400w up. THe OCZ 520w powerstream is an excelent PSU, and PC power and cooling are top of the line. The 6800GT is an excelent card, all depends on how much you want to spend, and what games you play as to weather you want to get the 6800gt. The 6600GT may also be a good choice depending on the games you play.

mainly play Halo and Doom3 and watch a lot of movies. I guess 6800GT would be sufficient for that? I have about 250 to spend on a PSU. So I want to make it a good one and not worry about having to get another one for quite a while.

btw, what about the CPU cooler. Pls help me with that. I'm confused on that one as well. Again I can spend about 70 on that as well. I hope I can get something that will last me a fair while. Thanks.

eh? $100 is more than enough to get you the best PSU available. I personally stick with Antec powersupplies, those have never failed me. Other brands to look at include enermax, coolermaster, abit, etc...

I say go with the OCZ 520. I have it and it is the best power supply I have ever had.
There has been some problems with the new 600 and some have been recalled. Some actually fried some components. OCZ took care of their customers and replaced everything quickly. There is a thread here that discusses the issues. There is also a thread here on the forums that someone posted. The title is misleading as it was the 600's that had problems, not the 520's. I think these incedents just show the level of OCZ's customer support.

The 520 should be more than adequate for your rig and should serve you well for a several years.

stock cooling works like a charm and guarantees warranty.

If you're just going to run everything at stock speeds the stock cooler for you processor should be fine. Amd's don't run as hot as the new pentium 4's, so you shouldn't have any of the issues with the stock cooler that some prescott owners have had.

What are you doing to need 4gb of ram for. And I would recommend an the OCZ 520 like others have said.

I do a bit of video capturing and stuff like that. So I thought might get a lot of ram. I might cut it down to 2GB though. 4GB does sound a bit excess.

I am not familiar with the OCZ PSU's. My choice is PCPower&Cooling all the way. They are a little on the noisy side (I replaced the stock fan with a SilenX 14dba) but will give you the absolute cleanest voltages available in a PSU BAR NONE!!! with the least amount of line regulation and ripple under LOAD! Pricey, but as always you get what you pay for.
