Which project?

Hi guys!

I haven't been here for a long time. But I still have S@H running on a few machines for the TeAm.
I would like to do some more distributed computing again, but lost track of all the projects running now.

What I need, is a project that doesn't need a lot of bandwidth and works well with a dial-up connection. Preferably, the client should run hidden. Something like the d.net client, but I don't wanna run anything for them again.
And it should run for quite a long time, so I can install the client at a few friends computers and not have to go back for a long time.

Is TA running the new ECCP project? Has it got a good client?

Edit: Almost forgot: In which contest does the TeAm need help the most?

ECCP2 (or whatever it is called - has that started yet?) and Distributed Folding are both good candidates for your situation. Also RC5-72 has started up.

I suggest Find-a-Drug. It a project to find drugs to fight cancer, bioterror weapons, bacterial resistance to antibiotics, and several others. Typical bandwidth usage is 5K/result. 50K if it has to download a new target molecule. New targets seem to be added monthly so there's always new work to be done. You can also set it up to queue based on CPU power and number of days between connects. Even if it can't connect, it can wait and generate new work from previous work. It's easy to make the client run hidden. Just set everything to run hidden in the setup program and edit the think.lgo file so it doesn't load the tray icon. Finally, we're a very small team. Including me, there are 3 active members. We've climbed up to 20th and are approaching 19th. Just shows you that a little power can make a big difference in this project. DF is in a tight race with Rechenkraft net for #6, in fact without some new recruits, we have no chance to keep ahead of them

it would do nicely for your own box (runs as a service in XP/W2K), however the friends computers would be less optimal

DF has periodic updates to the data, "protein changes" and while these can be set to automatically download, it isn't perfect and sometimes requires intervention

so i would suggest possibly helping the DF team with your own boxen and maybe running eccp2 or something on your friends pc's

Good to see you're also still here.
How are you and your family? Have you all recovered from all the problems?
Now I'm thinking about it. The time when you got into trouble, is about the same time I was here for the last time.
