Which project?

After having been away for quite some time, I would like to start another DC project again. But since I haven't kept up with all projects, I need your help to select one.
Is there a project fit for my system with these wishes:

- Runs well on P4 2.8 (no HT)
- No install (on windows XP)
- No D.net
- Fully automatic (no manual sending/receiving)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what you mean by "no install" but the text only version of Folding@Home does not use an install program-but it must be properly set up. It runs as a service on your machine.

Otherwise, it's dead simple, your DC will be doing good for mankind and you will be be involved in a great group in these forums. Check it out.

Find a Drug is another project which may meet your needs but it does have to be installed althought the new version can be installed as a sevice.

By no install I assume you mean no changes to the registry? That rules out SB.

But I think just about any BOINC project will meet your needs. BOINC SETI in particular has some clients optimized specifically for the P4. No registry, and automatic connection at whatever interval you set on a project's web site.

Also, you can sign up for another project, that normally runs at low priority but kicks in when your main project is down, so your computer will never be idle.

Welcome back, KifArU 🙂

The Folding@Home TeAm could use your help, a couple members recently cut back production due to summer temps.

The setup for the console version that Thump refers to is simply answering a few questions on how you prefer to run the program. Stuff like your Name and TeAm number (198), if you connect thru a proxy, if you want to run as a service, what priority, etc.

Otherwise it meets all your wish list: runs well on P4 (some WUs for P4 have bonus points), the console version is an executable (no install), it is not d.net, it sends and recieves by http automatically (unless you don't want it to - an option in the setup)

Whichever project you choose have fun! 😀

Make sure to also try NetDimes in the background. It takes almost no CPU time, and uses a small amount of your bandwidth (ive heard 12 Mb per day) and RAM to map out the internet. It can be set to run when you sign on, and is extrememly unobtrusive.

Well, the new computer still hasn't arrived. So I'm installing it on the old one now.
The project of choice is F@H. It seems I have participated in the past, but already forgot that.

Welcome aboard KifArU

I hope you like F@H. I've been having good luck with it here. It does it's thing without interrupiting at all.

So we can save the world while we're also blowing it up! (we game quite a bit here).

Welcome back KifArU 🙂

If you use your old F@H name "[TA]KifArU" when you configure the client, you will just continue to add points to your old score. Which is pretty good at 11,132 points! 😛

They did a re-evaluation of WU points so they build up faster now than when you were folding before.

Couldn't get F@H to send/receive, so I switched to FAD, which is running now.
On basis of the points when I quit this project, I am 2277 in the stats. Let's see!

And the PC has HT enabled, so that should be an extra few points a day.

Also, try NetDimes in the background. Im not sure about install and all of that because I am currently away from my home computers, but it only takes a small about of bandwidth and almost no (~1 minute after 6 hours of running it) CPU time.
