Which program will absolutly push my system overboard?

Mondobyte is on the dot for burn in but I'm going to go with BlackMountainCow's suggestion of prime95, I haven't found a better stress test yet.

If you want heat, get yourself some older SCSI drives and load up your case with those... they throw off heat... 😀

run any dc project with rthdrbl. both will load the respective component 100% and run until you stop them.

If the reason you are trying to do this is see if your machine is stable....F@H is one of the best at spotting how stable a machine is. Sometimes, it fails when Prime95 runs fine.

For heat, nothing beats a pair of dual xeon noconas. Its winter time and I hate to shut my bedroom window. Its like there is a heater in the room, also have a 3.2 prescott next to it but it hardly puts out heat compared to the xeons lol

I like to run 2 dc projects and fire up vmware with 3 different linux distros and run the antivirus software lol a few full scans max out the ram and it keeps the processors churning.

two instances of Rosetta has my core 1-2 degrees (C) hotter than CPU burn-in.

I think the Prime95 configured to most extreme (don't remember the exact name of the config, but it is obvious from the proggy when you run it) is the hotest I have tried. Actually, I quit using it because it was too far above any 'real-world' temp I could muster.

Well guys good news, my computer made it through the night with flying colours. It finished the SETI in 2 1/2 hours. And is still running like a champ.

HOWEVER...my roomates computer didn't. LOL.

CPU Burn-In - It's made to run your CPU to max heat ... much more effective at heating the ole cpu up than ANY DC project I have ever run ... and I've run most at one time or another.

mondo

Better than Prime95?
I found that P95 would get the CPU hotter than old SETI by about 3-4C.

CPU burn in will get the CPU hotter than just about any program there is, even Prime95, but its not as good of a stability tester as Prime95 from what I've heard.

They all just left you hanging didn't they?

It's been some time since I used Prime95, but if I remember right, the choices for what type of test to run were offered up by the program when it was installed (or run... don't know which)

I recall that I didn't know anything about Prime95 but was able to walk throught it.

Here's a link to a download site for Prime95 at EOC I think if you give it a try you will find all the choices it offeres.

Good luck!

The choice of torture test type you run is given when you hit 'torture test'

I still don't get what narzy was on about ,nm 😉
