I am told that the Q6600's run hotter, and use B3 now instead of G0, and only OC to about 3.2-3.4 instead of the old 3.6-3.8 (Is that true?)

The Q8200 looks usually equal, sometimes slower, more often faster (at STOCK) than the Q6600 (see: http://www.behardware.com/medi...s/00/24/IMG0024932.gif ), and the Q8200 is .067 ghz slower.
The Q8300 is 7.5x multiplier, which I assume I would be limited to 7.5x450 on that board?

So, my interpretation is that, the Q8xxx have a higher clock to clock performance than the Q6600, and run cooler.. at basically the same price. And because the Q66's are now using B3, they wouldn't OC higher than the Q8300 would anyway, so I should buy the Q8300.

Does this sound right? Thanks, guys!

Then again, maybe it's not faster.. Benchmarks vary so much.

Which should I get, in any case?

The 45nm quads do run cooler than the 65nm versions and have improved SSE-4 instructions.

What are you planning to do?

In regards to overclocking in general, its not an exact science. Always remember YMMV with each CPU. I would recommend a Q8xxx series..

Or if you live near a Microcenter I've heard they have Q9400 chips for $180.

Otherwise Q8200/Q8300 is a better option than Q6600.
