Which Processor is better?

I don?t know a whole lot about processors, but I was wondering, which of these two processors are better. AMD 4200 X2 or AMD Opteron 165 Dual-Core? I mean if they were the same price, which one would you buy?

The 4200+ will be at stock faster than the opty. Its 2.2ghz compared to 1.8ghz.
Optys do overclock well but u need to be lucky enough to get a good one and have a good board.

Are u buying a new system or just upgrading the cpu?

not always do opty OC better.
my opty can't do 2.6 at stock voltage but many 3800+ can

go with the 4200.

Monarch has the OEM Opty 170 for $196 shipped, I'd take that over the $190 4200+...

Too bad an OC E6300 for $180 will blow its' socks off......

If you plan on overclocking go with the 165... running at stock speeds go for the 4200+.

IDK what the opty is at stock, but clock for clock they are the same, so all you gotta worry about is getting a higher number. The X2 will usually be higher stock, but the opty will usually reach a higher overall overclock.

No, just upgrading the cpu.

Another thing to think about is the heatsink, optys ship with the 4 pipe while nearly all X2s ship with the 2 at best. If you're using non stock cooling then it's not really a problem.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

You do know the E6300 and the 4200+ perform similar dont ya.
The e6400 is the sweet point, below that it doesnt really mater if u get x2 or c2d.


Anyways the stock heatpipe amd heatsink is a heap of crap, even the blue orb 2 pounds it... it does work quite well on single cores though

Unless you're overclocking of course, in which case the 4200 takes a beating.

Too bad going the C2D route may mean forking over additional cash for a new motherboard and RAM, in addition to the price of a C2D CPU. Not to mention a much smaller selection of quality MOBO's to choose from.
