Which power supply is better for video card overclocking?

I have an EVGA 6800 (the one with 1000mhz DDR3) I'm getting ready to overclock it but I can't decide between which power supply to use. Some people have been telling me that the 12V rail is the most important for overclocking. Others have told me that its the overall wattage (which from what I've read isn't always true).

What do you guys think?

Here is my system: MSI K8N Neo Platinum / AMD 64 3000+ (90nm)/ Evga 6800 /Western Digital 250GB

here are pictures of their respective specs:

Enermax EG365 12V = 26 AMP
Super Flower SF-450TS 12V = 18 AMP

Thanks for your help.

Of those 2 the Enermax hands down. How much is it? New egg has the 460w Enermax for $77 and that is a great PS if you can afford it 🙂

Thanks man... I actually already own both of them... I'm currently using the SuperFlower but was wondering which I should be using.

Do you think the 12V rail makes a big difference on video card overclocking?

Thanks!

the video card and the HDDs and CDROMS along with the AMD CPUS feed from the 12v line if i remember right? so yes you want the strongest 12v ps that you can afford. The Enermax is pretty good with 26A on the 12V rail so you should be better off with that one 🙂

Watch the 5+line on that Enermax. They are known to be a problem and I have had (2) of my own go bad. The first one under warranty and the second one which was the warranty replacement and was of a later "improved" design did the same thing within a year.

I will never buy another enermax anything because that.

12+line feeds anything with a drive motor and only the drive motor I believe. The 5+line on the same 4-pin is what might be used for the GPU and I think it is regulated down from 5+ to the AGP voltage. But i'm really not sure.

The 5+ line feeds the CPU, newer motherboards with the 12+ square 4-pin Aux conn supply power to the CPU, but only those boards with the square 4-pin do. I'm not sure if they feed it with that line on it's own or if it is regulated and supplements the 5+ or not.

I'm definately not an expert on the subject except for the Enermax problem part of my schpeel 😛

And I am currently running my 6800 Limited Edition on a Antec 350watt True Blue with the Ultra bios and no problems. I have played BF1942 for hours with it at 425/1200 too. I have a Barton mobile@2.4gig

Killrose.. thanks for the info.. I've been checking some other forums re: the enermax... for most people it appears the enermax series is pretty solid with the 350 watt PS's considerably outperforming most 550w PS's

I'll think I'll be switching back to the enermax... just hope I don't run into any 5V rail problems.. the 32 AMPS on the 5V looks pretty good though
