I think #1 looks better, but #2 looks more comfortable to write with. I think I'll go with #1

At first I thought, "WHY A PEN", but seriously, I'd love those pens.

If I voted for 1, please change my vote to 2. The black just looks nicer, and the silver is too shiny.

Rite in the Rain

if you are in the market to buy all-weather pens and paper, that's the place to go. The paper products can get mighty pricey, but the pens, for what they are, are amazingly priced. Unless you want special look (they have a pen fashioned out of a real .375 MAG round), the pens won't cost more than $15ish, and refills (should you need one in a few years) are about the cost of a cheap fancy pen at $6.

Those pens will literally write on anything in any condition. And hold their legibility very very well. Doesn't really smear when the paper gets wet, unless writing on regular paper and the paper crumbles and disintegrates. Otherwise, no bleed or anything.

A space pen isn't a fountain pen. Fountain pens are special, and anyone who enjoys writing will like the old tech approach.

Mont Blanc makes very nice writing instruments, but IMO, they're over priced and don't fit my hands right.

I've owned several Waterman pens and they are a better tool for my hands.

(hell, Parker makes some dammed nice quality pens...for about $20...:D

I need a new nib for my Waterman pen. =0(

Wow.

Hell, I have difficulties buying any pen over $10 because I know my tendency to lose them (I bought a few cross pens a year ago...lost one).

Besides, I absolutely hate fountain pens. I was forced to learn and write with them when I was in the third grade in Germany. Such a PITA to write with those things.

I love writing with fountain pens. I have a few cheapies, and would get something really nice, like the OPs contemplating. I just don't write enough to justify it.

Flashy people and their status symbols.

Seriously, there's nice and then there's adequacy issues. Any pen over $100 better do something damn cool for me to consider it. Think about it, unless your friend is a prolific writer or collector this is just going to sit on (her?) desk and look shiny. Nothing else, nothing more, nothing but. If she's either of the former I recall my criticism, if not my lack of full comprehension.

But if you're dead set on one of those two, go for #1. Looks more sleek/modern IMO.
