Which part of my system is dying?

As far as I know, I get error messages in Windows 2000 Pro, when trying to run either Windows Media Player or ICQ.

Error Message

[edit]It just happened while running WS_FTP.[/edit]
[edit2]It just happened while running Cute FTP. Someone let me email them the image so I can get it uploaded. I'm desperate![/edit2]

Anyway, My celeron 300a is running @ 300 (stopped doing 450 like 5 months ago). My 160 mb of ram (3 sticks - 64, 64, 32), still causes the error messages in any combonation of the memory (either just 1 stick or all 3 together). My hard drive seems extremely slow (My Slow HD post), yet it continues to pass Maxtors Powermax drive diagnostic utility.

I'm totally stumped! This all just started to happen last night, and absolutely nothing has changed in my system in over 2 months!

Just a hunch, but there is a possibility that the error could be caused by a corrupted DLL file which both Media Player and ICQ uses.

If my hunch is right, most probably it should be MFC42.DLL, and you could try copying that file from someone else's PC to your WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory and see if the problem goes away?

Hope that helps,

Actually, I got my system working again.

Somehow the date on my system changed from the year 2000 to the year 2059. It took me a while to notice it, but once I changed it back to the year 2000, everything was working fine again.

What is strange is that this is the second time this has happened in the last year. The last time the year was changed to 2036.

I'm positive nobody in my family changed it, and I dont think I have a virus. Either some program just has a problem with windows 2000 or someone is doing some very crappy hacking.
