I've been out of the game for a while and I need the experts on this forum to clue me in on what rig to build. I'm hoping to get a new P4, mobo and DDR RAM for $400-$600. I'm looking at the 2.53G and the 2.4BG but can't tell if one might be more overclocker friendly than the other. What does BG vs G mean? Finally, can I get some mobo recommendations? I'm looking for some OC features but no useless stuff like onboard audio, video, ethernet, firewire etc.

Thanks guys!

I've never heard of a P4 2.53G or a P4 2.4BG, but I have heard of a P4 2.4A and 2.4B. As far as I know, they just indicate a different FSB speed(400MHz or 533MHz). If you plan on overclocking with a P4 and DDR, I would reccommend getting a 2.4GHz P4(with the 533MHz FSB), PC2700 DDR, and an Intel 845PE(officially supports DDR 333) mobo. I've heard the Asus P4PE is nice, but there are cheaper mobos that use the Intel 845PE. You might want to look at the Albatron PX845PEV PRO. It's only $78 at mwave, overclocker friendly, and Anantech gave it good reviews. The Abit BE7 is another mobo to consider. You could easily buy all this for $400-600.

imo, the G means gigahertz
there are two versions of the p4
2.4A-400mhz fsb
2.4B-533mhz fsb

so, the 2.4BG essentially mean the p4 2.4 ghz with 533mhz fsb

bgeh has it nailed. The G refers to Gigahertz. The B refers to 533MHz quad front side bus. No B designation indicates 400MHz quad fsb.
