Which P35 Motherboard under $100.00

I can't decide what motherboard to get. I am trying to decide out of the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L or the abit IP35-E or is there another board you suggest. Has anyone heard anything about the abit IP35V?

IP35V is inferior to IP35-E. There are confirmed no post problem with IP35-E if room temp is under 60F. Probably a few hundred affected units in the field. I have five boards and all are okay. Some boards also have bad solders at the SATA ports. Again, no issue with mine. If you don't have these issues, then the board should run well at stock speed and be able to hit 500MHz FSB overclock.

DS3Ls have issue with retaining BIOS settings. These don't overclock as well as IP35-E...probably 450 to 470MHz FSB.

If you want a p35 board the IP 35 pro is nice with some extras and better NB and SB cooling and raid and firewire. Otherwise they are the same, save the difference and buy a Tuniq cooler and OC the poop out of something.


BTW I saw your name OP and I thought you had the letters E and R after your name and I imagined something completely different

It's hit or miss with open box items. I don't like to deal with open box electronics. I think we will see a $20 rebate @ NewEgg on IP35-E this month. This will bring the price down to $70. I don't think you need to pay an extra $25 for RAID, 1394a, and two more SATA ports.

It's best to buy only what you need in a MB. Save $ now, so you can upgrade in the near future.

for 128 shipped with a 25 mail in rebate. So 6 dollar difference between the boards. Which one should I go with?

If you need a board today, then IP35 is probably the better choice. Both use the same motherboard. IP35 adds ICH9R chipset and heat pipe cooling.

I don't like to overclock a 7x multi chip. Too much stress on MB, RAM, and CPU. You'll need very good RAMs to hit 490MHz. You'll also need a very good CPU to be able to run at 490MHz FSB. These chips will generally top out around 450 to 470MHz FSB.

E4xx0 or E2160/E2180 are better deals if you want to overclock.

If you already have an e6300 don't worry about it. If you have decent RAM you should still easily hit 400-450MHz for a 2.8-3.15GHz cpu speed. That's probably doable on stock cooling and maybe even with stock cpu volts. My e6400 runs 8x375 (3GHz) 24x7 on stock volts with stock cooling, only hits ~55C when F@H. You will just need solid memory to run the higher FSB required due to the low cpu multiplier.

Hi i am also confused of which one to buy IP35 or IP35-E as IP35 has some bad reviews on Newegg as compared to the E version. Can anyone confirm for sure that there is no diff on the board other than the extra Hardware. I mean in terms of reliability and stability.

It's the same board. The RAID option in IP35 probably messed up a few noobs during installation.

7x400=2.8GHZ but you'll get an overclock out of the RAM too esp. if you loosen the timings.

i'd recommend the MSI P35 Neo FR (featured on AT front page). I dont know why people don't recommend it more. It's under 100 at some places, overclocks, TONS of USB ports, and has crossfire which most sub $100 boards don't have.

Most users don't CROSSFIRE. IP35 adds 1394a and one more SATA port. It's also a more stable board up to about 490 to 500MHz FSB. Finally, the built-in fan speed control is superior to the MSI (works with 2/3/4 wire fan).
