Hi all,
I have two computers: One is a PII 400mhz, 256 mb Ram, Herc. Geforce2 Mx video and the other is a Dell Inspiron Celeron 400mhz, 128 mb Ram. They both share my cable connection via a Linksys hub. I am running Win 98 SE on both.
My desktop is getting a little sluggish so I am planning to format the hd and reinstall everything sometime over the holidays.
I am wondering that seeing I am doing this, would this be a good time to change the OS on my desktop? Win ME, Win 2000? If so I would leave the notebook running Win 98 SE at least for now. (I am getting a copy of Drive Image 4.0 so my plan is to take an image of a newly completely fresh drive with everything installed so I guess I could restore it to my laptop quickly enough if I need to). Would there be any issues with my network settings in running two different operating systems?
Fyi I do play a number of games on the desktop including Q3.
...or should I leave the whole darned thing alone and just reinstall Win 98 SE?
Your opinions would be appreciated.
Tia

I realy like Win2K and have no compatibility problems. Its rock stable and give me a little performance boost in most of the games and apps I use.. But others have said the exact opposite. Some can't get many games working, some can't get apps to work right. I don't know why there is such a difference from machine to machine but there is. I just know from my experience that Win2K is hands down the best OS. I'll never go back to a 9X platform.. Good luck.

Just to answer your question, you can network 2 different OS's without a problem...

Personally I have been running win2k for 1/2 yr and I absolutely love it... I have had little hardware or software problem, everything works perfectly... However I dont play much games so can't help you there...

I ahve played almost every game I own (over 40) in Win2K without any problems. Every major 3D shooter, RPG, RTS, and cinematic game I ahve ever installed played with no problems, and if they did have problems, it stemmed from my rap ass GeForce and NOT win2K. Jsut my 2 centz.
